Chipper Jones was 3-6 today with a three run homer, a 2RBI single, a double, a run scored. The guy had a bit of a down week this week as he ONLY hit .389 with only ONE home run since Wednesday.
WOW
If he stays healthy, you can really start to talk about MVP. He is just ALWAYS coming through these days. WOW. It is more of a surprise when he DOESN'T get a hit now. He is a guy I really hope can overcome his recent injury history and with a good year this year and next, you might hear the talk of HALL OF FAME again with Chipper's name. He was seemingly a lock back in 2004, but then injuries started hitting him. Freak injuries, groin injuries (which led to the obligatory Hooter's joke), but last season WHEN HEALTHY, he was raking, and he's doing it again this season.
Stay healthy Chip!
And HEY GLAVINE, let's get a grip. Your team staked you to a 7 run lead after 3, let's try to go 5 innings so you can get your first win. Thank goodness Bennett closed the door on your 5th inning mess. Glavine, with Smoltzie out and Hampton, who knows, the Bravos will need you to step into the #2 spot. Jair is a great #3, but asking him to take over the 2-spot, might be a little too much.
(PS, I also hope Jair is the real deal and not Jorge Sosa part two. Fingers crossed)
Finally, I want to say Kotsay, you keep doing your thing man. You are a solid player and if the Braves don't try and resign you this off-season, I WILL be disappointed.
Braves Win Braves Win, take Monday to recover then welcome in the Pad Squad!
Welcome to Sports by Fletch, where I rant and rave, usually about UGA, high school sports and sometimes pro sports. Thanks for reading and I hope you come back.

Braves Rock Reds, will send Glavine in with a broom
It looked like the Braves MIGHT finally have a chance to win a one run game. Then the 7th inning happened. The Braves were up 2-1 when the faithful at the Ted stretched after 6.5, but they might as well have stayed on their feet after "Thank God I'm a country boy" was played. The Braves scored 6 times in the frame thanks to a bases loaded walk and a double, single and sac fly. For good measure the boys netted another in the 8th before closing the deal in the 9th and putting Cincy out of its misery.
Good for the Braves, and good for Jo-Jo the monkey boy. (Wifey thought that ANYONE named Jo-Jo should come with cymbals.)
He really came through, and that would be nice if he would reach the potential the brass thought he had when they decided NOT to include him in the Tex trade, instead sending Matt Harrison plus another AA pitcher. Hopefully he can keep getting better
Also, Chipper continues to swing the hot bat, same with Yunel Escobar. The only thing with Yunel, quit flipping the bat. DUDE, you flied out to center. no need brother.
The bullpen did a NICE job coming in when the game was in doubt and closing the door. Let's keep this up.
Glavine had a NICE start, his first trip to the hill after a DL stint. Hopefully he can get his first victory as a Brave (this season at least) Sunday in the finale. He is 0-1 on the year, but tough-luck, he hasn't gotten any run support and he should AT LEAST be 2-1 if not 3-1.
The Bravos then have Monday off before facing the Pad-squad. They TOO are struggling. It would be SO NICE if the Braves could SWEEP this 6 game homestand and get RIGHT BACK into the NL East before heading to Philly. One can dream right?
Remember, my first Braves' Beat in Score Atlanta comes out Wednesday. Check the bottom of the page for the link.
Also the Braves go for .500 again tomorrow. 14-15 right now. But they are only 2GB. just hang around until the bullpen works itself out, and you are in a GREAT spot.
It should be an exciting SUMMER!
PS, I would root for the Hawks, IF they promise not to steal anymore of my broadcasts. Can you promise me that? No? Go Celtics then!

There's going to be some partying in Buckhead tonight!
So the Hawks won, which means my show Sunday will probably be cancelled. That's OK, I guess. As long as the Hawks lose that game so I don't lose anymore shows, we'll be OK.
But on to the Braves. Hudson was ON HIS GAME tonight. I think he barely hit 100 pitches, after striking out 10 through 6 innings. NICE WORK HUDDY! 4-2 on the year. Well on his way to 19 wins on the season.
Chipper also had yet another pretty solid night and Lumps got the home run to give the Braves to 2-0 lead and win. Good work BMac.
Overall a pretty good night. Happy with the result. Tune in to 790 tomorrow after the Braves game for a little Extra Innings!

Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey got hitched?
The Drumline star is 27. Mimi is 38. Ummmmm really?
I mean this is crazy right? I am not the only one thinking that right?
He probably grew up thinking, "Man is she hot." Now he is hitched to her?
This cannot be serious, right?
I guess WHEN this marriage goes on the rocks (and it will. Come on. Let's get real. Not IF but WHEN) will it be the Emancipation of Mimi 3?

I foresee NO problems with this one....
Apparently China decided it HAD to build the world's longest bridge that crossed a sea. As you can read in the article, it will cut travel times, but at 1.7B was this 22 mile bridge really a smart idea? Well I guess it was since there are no tsunamis or typhoons or earthquakes or hurricanes EVER in China that would send folks driving at milemarker 14 into the sea. I am SURE they thought of that....
China Thursday inaugurated one of the world's longest bridges, which will provide an important new route into Shanghai, state press said.
Presented as the "world's longest sea bridge", the 36-kilometre (22-mile) structure connects Jiaxing city near Shanghai to the port city of Ningbo in the eastern province of Zhejiang.
It is slightly shorter than the 38.4-kilometre Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge in the southern United States, which is often billed as the world's longest.
The 11.8 billion yuan (1.7 billion dollars) bridge cuts the length of the road trip from Shanghai to Ningbo by 120 kilometres, the official Xinhua news agency said.
Construction of the six-lane bridge started in November 2003 in an effort to reduce traffic congestion in the booming area, Xinhua said.\
I would have just wanted assurances that this thing wouldn't be blown over by a hurricane and dump me into the sea. Just saying. Can we get a COVER or something?

What's his superpower?DRINKING?
Ironman opened up last night for all those computer dorks that like to stay up late and go see the movie at midnight before heading back to their mom's basement to put in their retainers.
As for the rest of America, some of it will go and see Ironman this weekend. Why, I don't know. My main problem is ROBERT DOWNEY JR as the main hero? Is his superpower the ability to go to rehab? A superhuman thirst for alcohol and drugs? Is his dick-brush/ball-tickler combo part of his powers?
I just don't buy it. It was like when Toby McGuire was cast as Spiderman. I believe him as Peter Parker, but not the superhero. Ummm HGH anyone?
I buy Christian Bale as Batman. He was Jack Kelly for pete's sake. But he is believable as a superhero. I am in the school of thought of casting the superhero first and then make them into the "dork," not casting the dork and making them into a superhero. Toby McGuire was in the second school of thought there. If I was MJ, and I knew TOBY MCGUIRE was webbing through the sky to save me, I think I'd be a LOT more worried than if they cast, say Colin Ferrell.
I think it all goes back to Michael Keaten being the first Batman. Some guys are meant to play heroes and others aren't. Keaten was a good Beetlejuice, and a fine Bruce Wayne, but NOT a believable Batman. I was ROOTING for the Joker in that movie. I was saying, "Come on Vicky Vale, go for the winner!" Then in Batman Forever, when Val Kilmer took over, I believed he was cast for Batman and then made into Bruce Wayne. How it should have been.
All I ask is for my superhero movies to cast the main character in the hero role first, alterego second. Thanks.

Ya GOT to Rise up-ah
(Imagine this in preacher voice,)(and this isn't meant to be sac-relig, but I was just talking to sportbyfletch's Falcons Correspondent Paul Mac, and somehow, this came out...)
Lord, I want chya to look down on the Fal-kins-Ah!
They drafted poorly Lord. We need you to reach out and help out these Fal-Kins-Ah!
Their new GM wasn't much different from their old one Lord. In fact, he's being called Thomas DimWITroff,Lord.
Please reach down Lord, REACH DOWN and put some smarts in his head, cause Lord, you can probably see that after that draft he doesn't have any in there under that hair that is clearly possessed by SATAN.
Come on Lord.
They needed help on the defensive line and future Hall of Famer Glen Dorsey was sitting RIGHT THERE at three Lord. Just like You were there as a burning Bush for
Moses, Lord. But DimWITroff passed. Lord his Satan's hairdo clearly seeped into his brain.
WE NEED TO EXCORCISE THE DEMONS, LORD!
Then he traded two picks which could have been used to shore up the D-Line of the secondary to take an O tackle that was second-round-bound, despite what DimWITrov said on Buck and Kincade, Lord.
And they took yet ANOTHER Wideout Lord, yet they NEVER addressed the DLine, instead taking Linebacker after linebacker.
Lord, the Fal-kins-ah NEED your help Lord.
Reach down and Help Them-Ah.
AMEN!
(Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm going to Hell. Not for JUST this, but this might be padding the ballot box. It certainly isn't HELPING the cause, let's just say...)
