In a Tampa, Florida high school football game last night, UGA's future took a huge blow. QB Aaron Murray, a UGA-bound high school senior broke his leg as he was piling up huge numbers. He had one rushing TD and three passing TDs before the injury and his high school career is over. He WON'T get to attend (as a player at least) the High school all-star games and the Elite 11 QB camp MVP will now not likely come to UGA early and get a jump on the competition. Which could not matter all that much because if Stafford comes back next season, Murray would have been riding the pine. But if Stafford had left early (and how do you turn down 30M+ just for signing your name and 70+ overall?) I believe Murray could have beaten out Joe Cox and Logan Gray (and fellow future frosh Zach Mettenberger) and taken the QB job.
This will also hurt because he was recruiting for UGA too. Hey, did you like that ball I threw you fellow Under Armor all star and 5-star recruit? Come to UGA and we can do that for the next 4 years!
But things will be OK. At least that is what I am telling myself. Interestingly enough, Sportsbyfletch recruiting expert Paul Mac and I had a conversation about Aaron Murray yesterday. Here are the highlights....
Me: as far as option QBs at UGA....I know you are kidding, but it wouldn't surprise me if Aaron Murray aka Tebow-lite is used in spread-option packages next season, and watch out if he wins the job outright his sophomore year (assuming Stafford leaves after this year, oh COURSE Murray will play right away. If Stafford stays, Murray sits), over Gray, I wouldn't be surprised to see UGA build its offense to include zone read option packages. That is his strength. Just like Shockley's his senior year. There was A LOT of shutgun work done that year, if you will recall. It frustrated me when they had Danny Ware back there, but UGA doesn't have a big Danny Ware-type back. All of the backs on the roster RIGHT NOW are all kind of scat backs. Don't be surprised to see Charlton Thomas and Murray become best buds ala Pat White/Steve Slaton.
Paul Mac responded: It's really scary how good they could be under richt with a guy who can both throw well and get outside. He teaches great fakes, and personally I think Bobo generally calls a good game. Stafford can move, but had Van Gorder not left and Shock not been hurt, I think you might have seen an even more impressive team that year. If they can just avoid injuries and click.... they've got to get it working in the next 3 weeks. If they can win these 3... I think they win out... they are justnot to that point yet where everything clicks. (happened in the FLA game
last year.)
Bottom line, the QB position at UGA looks promising, but we NEED Aaron Murray to come back FULL-Strength from this broken leg. If he comes back and isn't the same, then UGA is in trouble. Also, do we think that Jon Richt might transfer out of Clemson to UGA? I doubt it. I am not calling for him. I think UGA has the position well-stocked for the future, but he DID go to Clemson to play for TBowden and now Tommy isn't there anymore. Interesting...........

Weekly high school blog on sportsbyfletch!
Let's start off by looking ahead to this weekend in Class-AAA. You can also see this on gpb.org/football.........
The winds of change could soon be sweeping through the Class AAA top ten rankings after Cairo travels to take on Dougherty. The Syrupmakers are 5-0 but the Trojans of Dougherty are 4-2 and could pull off the upset. The Baldwin Braves, led by Corico Hawkins will have an easier road to hoe in Richmond Hills. Cole Moon of St. Pius X will also look to lay claim to a top spot should anyone ahead of the Golden Lions fall. Dunwoody’s senior QB Eric Cooper will look RB Treavor Scales’s way plenty as Columbia is the foe this week. With No.6 Gainesville off this week, No.7 Flowery Branch will have a chance to join the Red Elephants at the top of the Region 7B-AAA standings at 3-0. The Falcons travel to East Hall. Finally Carver-Columbus will try and beat region foe Shaw. Despite five losses, Shaw is only .5 GB from the region’s leaders.
Now then, my thoughts on the action from last week
How about Grayson, Hmmm? I know the students got a little antsy, but then so did UGA fans in 2000 v Tennessee. Let's cut them a little slack. They knocked off Brookwood when no other regional foe had done so since 2004. Yeah. 29 straight games. I am doing a story on Grayson for next week's Score Atlanta, so check that out next week. But Ean Pemberton ONCE AGAIN was a man! Little Giant if you will. The guy is 5'4 in the program, so in real life he is 5'2.5 maybe? Gosh he STILL carried it 29 times v Brookwood. watch out if he ever gets a little taller. Anyways, Mickey Conn, the Grayson coach said that "we're getting everybody's best game." True, Coach, but you guys are firing right back. Do I think you can win state, probably not. You aren't as good as Lowndes or NWR or Camden, but hey, a final four run isn't out of the question. And if the brackets break down in your favor...well you'd face Lowdnes in the elite 8, but you just never know.
Otherwise Lowndes looked impressive again, this time dispatching Valdosta 14-7 in the Winnersville Classic. Reid and Demps...hmmm they will be tough for ANYONE to stop.
Newnan has Bonner and Powell and Wynn. Paul Mac might have been right. These guys are a real sleeper in AAAAA. East Paulding at Harrison this be a doosy, Robbie Godhigh is a one man team for Harrison, but I get the feeling that East Paulding loses this one. I know Jahron Brown is good, and they have a great coach, but I think the Hoyas get the win at home.
Other AAAAA ponderations....Hey, Did DJ Adams finally get his act together with 4tds and 153 yards rushing or was it simply a matter of Norcross playing Northview? I hope for Norcross's sake (and mine since I picked Norcross to go to state finals) he got his act together. I hope the line grew up too. Michael Tamburo had a TD v Chattahoochee. NGHS is flying so far under the radar and I have no idea why. Their ONLY loss was to USA Today's #1 team first game of the year. Let's move past that already. They are undefeated v Georgia schools. Can they win it all? The Defense is young, but improving every week. Plus Tyler Jarry is doing most of the heavy lifting. Come playoff time, Tamburo WILL win a game for them on his own. MARK MY WORDS

WIth you in the fold, this team could make a final four run as the top of AAAA is a little weak IMO. Tucker is there, but they have flaws. Marist is good, but I think they have flaws too. Statesboro just lost its QB so I think they are done. Mays...please. Dalton lost to Sequoyah, but could be a contendah! And let's not forget Apalachee and the aforementioned Chaun Gresham. More like Jon Lee. They should be ranked.

Sorry Holcomb, but it is. Preston Brooks's three scores for Carrollton caught my attention the other day too.
AA Buford plays formerly ranked Thomson from AAA. Could The Wolves lose? Maybe their best chance at a loss all year. Come playoff time though I think their only challengers remain Henry Co and Drew Little (and Jamal Patterson and the junior Wideout), and Dublin's Rashard Smith, though he couldn't do it last year. What about Fitzgerald? I am not buying the Purple Hurricanes. Sorry Marco Brown and your 2tds last week. Jefferson County lost last week to East Laurens so they aren't legit.
In Class A, it is STILL running back dominated. Wayshaun had 4Tds last week, not to be outdone, Antonio Marshall had 4 scores for #2 Wilcox. Chris Barnwell had 4 as well for Savannah Christian, but it just seems ALL of these other schools are playing for second to ECI. Wayshaun and Moody. Too much for the state's smallest classification.
Other random thoughts....what was with Toney Williams of Milton NOT playing in the crunch time of their game with Walton. That upset would have been HUGE, but Williams was on the bench with Milton's lead slipping. They when Walton took the lead, you knew it was over. Was Williams hurt? We just don't know, but their coach needs to reexamine his game plan. that was just crazy.
Also, Hey Parkview, you need to start playing a little more consistantly, otherwise you might just miss the playoffs. With Squires and Jacobs, that would be a shame. South Gwinnett comes over this weekend and the Comets are starting their own stretch of games to determine their playoff future. This could be THE most interesting game we talk about this Saturday morning. LOTS hangs in the balance for these two teams.
Trey is out so Fletcher and Paul will run the show by themselves. Be sure to tune in to www.790thezone.com or just 790 AM on your radio dial from 9-10 this Saturday morning for VW's High School High Five.

The Midweek Entertainment report 10/15
Is Paris's BFF a racist? Madonna won't be starring in Snatch2 and why do people have a problem with Angelina's Booby?
Ladies and Gentlemen, it's the Midweek entertainment report!

If you missed Paris Hilton's new BFF last night, you missed Mike Onch once again being a d-bag as he (YES HE! He is a guy! Let's not forget that) refused to ride on the rollar coasters. I don't like rollar coasters myself, but if I was trying to win a contest, I'd ride them. And hey Kiki, it DID look like you were trying to poo!
Then when several of the contestants went to Japan for the VMAJ awards show, and Paris gave them $500, why did they buy crap with the money? I thought they were trying to look "Hot," but they didn't. Brittany looked like she bought a burlap sack to wear and then the other "Rocker" chick pretty much wore an American Flag....in Japan. Bet they LOVED that. Why didn't you just wear a shirt that said "I AM ANOLA GAY" Yeouch. It was also funny when the Asian drunk chick was still drunk when she told Paris that she didn't have a drinking problem. She's wasn't as think as you drunk she was.
Lastly, Corrie was racist? Just because she made a gross generalization about Tawainese people saying they knew how to do nails? Ummmm well, that or sewing clothes is probably the income of 95% of the country. Sorry, I guess I am racist too according to Zui. And then Zui tries to get Corrie to hit her after she went off on her? That would be like John Wilkes Booth saying, "Come on Lincoln, I dare you! Hit me! Come on!" Zui, you started it. Is your Minnie Mouse ears hairdo too tight? Last note, hey learn to know what a joke is Mike Onch and Zui. And stop spitting on people's beds. That is nasty. But we know Onch won't win, but he is being kept around for incidents like this. typical reality show stuff here. Like I said last week.
Fifty year old Madonna and her hubby Guy Ritchie are getting a divorce. This comes a few months after the news that possibly Madonna and A-Rod were getting it on. Hmmmm. Wow. I have to say that, despite 4 minutes to save the world (which was largely thanks to JT) Madonna hasn't been that much of anything in my opinion. On the other hand, Guy Ritchie gave us Lock, Stock and two smoking barrels, AS WELL AS Snatch. Loved Snatch. I hope Madonna's leaving means Guy can focus more on creating ZONETASTIC movies starring Jason Statham and Co.
Finally, Angelina Jolie is on the cover of W magazine (I think that's it) breast-feeding her baby. And people have a problem with this? Listen, I am not really a fan of women whipping out their boobies in public, but if Angelina wants to do it....just kidding. But can the women who staunchly defend in-public breast feeding could please explain to me why they find it is ok to do that, but it isn't OK for people to stare, isn't that a little hypocritical. Those women say, "You don't do to the bathroom to eat, why should my baby?" Ummm because usually public places have the whole policy of "No shirt, no shoes, no service." You aren't wearing a shirt...or if we want to go another way, quit giving me the evil eye when I look at your boobs. Sorry. If you are putting them out there! It IS a public place right? Isn't that your argument? So now I can't look wherever I want in a public place? I am so confused! Why can't I do things in a public place but you can do certain other things? COme on. Bottom line, if you want to whip it out, don't be upset if people want to look and check it out OR if they critize you. Afterall, it IS a public place and people are allowed their opinions, just like you are with your opinion that it is OK to take your breast out in the middle of a mall.

The President of TV rises again!
First off, let's all recall this blog from the myspace archives in reference to my amendment to the Rules of Television, which I drafted myself (having appointed myself President of TV back in 2005). I don't have a copy of the original Laws and/or Rules since that was on an email from SO LONG AGO, but this is a little something that is OH SO IMPORTANT TO my laws....
Since I am still awaiting appointment to my official position of President of Television, I will go ahead and put out on the table one of my future laws.
NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 18 IS ALLOWED TO TALK ON COMMERCIALS. This is a joint bill that my peer the Chancellor of Radio is putting forth before his Houses of Congress.
I am not saying kids can't be in commercials, but they are not allowed to talk. Admit it, those Welch's Grape juice commercials frighten you. Could you imagine if the twins from 7th heaven were on an ad. "Buy a Car." "Yeah, a red one." And the kid dressed up in a suit and tie that is an exterminator? Really, when you the last time you saw an exterminator wearing a suit while working? Also the kid in the Athens beef company ads kills me. He is going to hate his parents when he turns 20 and everyone knows him as the kid that said "It's Gooooooooooood"
This also crosses over to radio. The Rich Chocolate Ovaltine one bothers me, the one for New Bank and of course J&M Printing live from Clayton Georgia. Plus throw in the Kurt Cannon adds when he was running for State House. These ads bother me. Anytime you are hearing a kid talk and you think this must be a cute 5 year old, but you find out it is an uneducated 14 year old. Ouch
I can't think of a single commercial that would be an exception for this rule. I don't mind Anna Kornakova starring in an ad as a 16 year old, but don't speak. (Actually she starting getting really fugly when her man voice started coming out in interviews and such. It was like Pam Ward's Dance party)
So even though I do eventually want kids, I will NOT be placing them in speaking parts of commercials until they are 19. It will be their choice. Plus the parents of those kids just scream pedo! Hey there Mr. Ramsey, how's Jon Benet?
Now that we've walked down memory lane, I wanted to weigh in with some thoughts on the new Fall season of TV out there right now.....
Crusoe on NBC. I know it hasn't started yet, but REALLY? Do we need this? I think they've already tried this before....LOST. Yep, that's right. And with Lost, I don't think they KNOW ALREADY how it turns out. I think this show might be the first one cancelled if not for THIS SHOW on NBC....
My Own Worst Enemy. Christian Slater? Oh, so THAT'S what he's been doing for all of these years. Picking and choosing which show he will use as his big comeback vehicle...wait. Fringe. While I LOVE IT that Joshua Jackson aka Pacey is BACK on TV, this show...I tried for a few episodes, but it is just weird. I cannot give it the big ole Thumbs up. Move it to Friday nights or Thursdays so THAT way I can say "Well I'd watch it if it wasn't on at the same time as The Office...." Sorry Pacey. PS, at least you are still working though, UNLIKE JVDB, Kerr Smith, Michelle Williams and Merideth Monroe!
Dirty Sexy Money. Ummm I am pretty sure I was the only one watching this show (via the ABC.com on demand feature) and I even stopped watching it. I love Casey McCall, but his 6 Feet Under magic is GONE. Sorry Casey. But I did enjoy Anna from The OC in the few episodes I saw. This show could never figure out what it wanted to be (Comedy? Drama? Mystery?) and that killed it. SOme Dramedies work, but this wasn't funny enough to be considered a comedy and wasn't well-written enough to be called a Drama. I get the feeling that an ABC execprod's film student kid wrote this show and as a favor the network ran it. Just the feeling I got.
House. I have seen the first few episodes of the season and can they JUST GO AHEAD and bring back Cameron and Chase yet? How much money are they blowing every week on those two actors? Did talks stall in their negoiations and the show said, "FINE, WE'LL REPLACE YOU!" and the actors said, "Wait, fine you called our bluff. We'll stick around!" but it was too late. I like 13 and Harold (or Kumar, which one was it?) but Talb is a bit annoying. Can we just bring the Aussie and Pacey's conquest from season4-5 hiatus back please? And can House and Cuddy do it already? (AGAIN, I mean! Heyyyooooh!)
Prisonbreak. This might be the best season YET (at least since season 1) They are taking DOWN the company. The only thing that would make it better is if Michael Rappaport gets killed in the show. No, not his character, but if say he is doing a stunt and he falls off a crane. Just kidding. That's mean. But I love the secret ops these guys are pulling off here. this is just better than ANYTHING is season 3 and CLEARLY better than season 2.
The Office. Jim and Pam are getting married. And Dwight might be even funnier. How does this show lose to 30 Rock? I've watched 2.5 episodes of 30 Rock and it JUST. ISN'T. FUNNY. Sorry. Just isn't. Not Compared to The Office.
Kath & Kim. I think this might take off. The first episode was great and I think it will just get better. But then, I always loved that type of BONE DRY humor.
Til Death. How is this still on? Are they airing it until the two main characters (Brad Gilbert and the chick) die? If so, can we put Robert Ramone up on that crane with michael rappaport? Is the guy from American Pie still on this show?
Kitchen Nightmare. Do people really enjoy seeing these gross kitchens then having Gordon Ramsey yell at them to "CLEAN IT UP!" Ummm was he really necessary to tell them to clean up their stuff? Anytime you see bugs and flies in the kitchen, THAT AIN'T GOOD! It actually makes me NEVER want to eat at any of those places. EVEN if they DO give it a makeover. How soon after Gordon leaves do the owners let the kitchen fall back into that state? Hmmm? 2 months? 6 months?
The Real Housewives of Atlanta. So the REAL HOUSEWIVES can come to Atlanta, but The Real World CAN'T? COME ON MTV!
Hole in the Wall. OK, the cherry has popped. Can this show go away now? Wait, I guess they need to have D list celebs do it first before it goes away. So COME ON DOWN JOHNNY FAIRPLAY. You are up next against CT and Todd Bridges!
Lipstick Jungle. So it is Sex and the City, just neutered (Or spayed if you will)? How is this going to work out? Wasn't this called Cashmere Mafia at one point. GO AWAY NOW.
Finally, Deal or No Deal. I didn't realize that was still on. I am tired of watching people turn down huge amounts of money because they think that for WHATEVER REASON they have $1M in a case. When they turn down money like that, I start to root AGAINST them. Those fools. JUST TAKE THE DEAL! But I guess that's why I would never make it past the screening process. (And why do some people say PRO-cess? Just wondering)
So those are my thoughts on some of the new shows. Your President of TV, saying "Good day!"
Since I am still awaiting appointment to my official position of President of Television, I will go ahead and put out on the table one of my future laws.
NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 18 IS ALLOWED TO TALK ON COMMERCIALS. This is a joint bill that my peer the Chancellor of Radio is putting forth before his Houses of Congress.
I am not saying kids can't be in commercials, but they are not allowed to talk. Admit it, those Welch's Grape juice commercials frighten you. Could you imagine if the twins from 7th heaven were on an ad. "Buy a Car." "Yeah, a red one." And the kid dressed up in a suit and tie that is an exterminator? Really, when you the last time you saw an exterminator wearing a suit while working? Also the kid in the Athens beef company ads kills me. He is going to hate his parents when he turns 20 and everyone knows him as the kid that said "It's Gooooooooooood"
This also crosses over to radio. The Rich Chocolate Ovaltine one bothers me, the one for New Bank and of course J&M Printing live from Clayton Georgia. Plus throw in the Kurt Cannon adds when he was running for State House. These ads bother me. Anytime you are hearing a kid talk and you think this must be a cute 5 year old, but you find out it is an uneducated 14 year old. Ouch
I can't think of a single commercial that would be an exception for this rule. I don't mind Anna Kornakova starring in an ad as a 16 year old, but don't speak. (Actually she starting getting really fugly when her man voice started coming out in interviews and such. It was like Pam Ward's Dance party)
So even though I do eventually want kids, I will NOT be placing them in speaking parts of commercials until they are 19. It will be their choice. Plus the parents of those kids just scream pedo! Hey there Mr. Ramsey, how's Jon Benet?
Now that we've walked down memory lane, I wanted to weigh in with some thoughts on the new Fall season of TV out there right now.....
Crusoe on NBC. I know it hasn't started yet, but REALLY? Do we need this? I think they've already tried this before....LOST. Yep, that's right. And with Lost, I don't think they KNOW ALREADY how it turns out. I think this show might be the first one cancelled if not for THIS SHOW on NBC....
My Own Worst Enemy. Christian Slater? Oh, so THAT'S what he's been doing for all of these years. Picking and choosing which show he will use as his big comeback vehicle...wait. Class AAA Georgia Football Blog
So the Fletcher Proctor brand has grown ONCE AGAIN, this time to gpb.org/football. I am writing two blogs per week for Georgia Public Broadcasting's football page, all about the AAA Classification. Be sure to check it out at gpb.org/football.

Even with three of the top four teams ranked in the Class AAA GPB Prep Top Ten on a bye week, the action was hot in the state’s third biggest classification. The Syrupmakers of Cairo hosted Peach County and Angelo Pease and Reginald Bryant made sure Cairo would not fall from the top spot. Bryant caught a 56 yard TD pass from Pease with just under six minutes to play to ice a 16-7 win. Sleeper Dunwoody traveled to Towers and shut down the home team 49-16. Gainesville would host East Hall and QB Blake Sims got some help from Devon Pierce in a 41-10 win. Washington County met up with highly regarded Thomson and flexed to a 20-0 win Finally Connor Shaw and the Flowery Branch loaded up against North Hall in route to a 35-7 win. Daniel Drummond rushed for two scores as the Falcons cruised to the win.

College Football loses a Bowden, another to come?
So the college football world is now down to just ONE Bowden that shouldn't be coaching right now. Clemson, just a few months after signing its oft-maligned head coach Tommy Bowden to an extension, gave him the boot, meaning now ONLY Bobby Bowden is still at it. No Terry, no Jeff and now now Tommy. That's a shame.
In all honesty though, if Tommy Gruber had been Clemson's coach these last 10 years, he would have been shown the door about 4 seasons ago. Just saying...
I would say that maybe TB goes to FSU and finishes out the year giving his father tips on how to beat Clemson, but really, does ANYONE need tips on how to beat Clemson this season? Just smack them in the mouth.
One interesting thought. Tommy flirted with the Arkie job before reupping with Klimpsen...imagine if Arkie and Klimpsen had traded coaches this past offseason. Houston Nutt to the Tigers and Bowden to the Hogs. I am thinking the Hogs would be about where they are right now, though MAYBE TBowden could have used his silver tongue to convince Felix Jones to stick around (hey the guy got solid recruiting class after solid recruiting class to CLEMSON, SOUTH CAROLINA EVERY YEAR. He knows how to sell, clearly). With Felix Jones, maybe the team isn't turr-bull!
But picture Nutt with Clemson. James Davis would be in the Darren McFadden role of the WildTiger offense, with CJ Spiller playing the role of Felix Jones. And Cullen Harper is WAY better than Mustain or Dick or Matt Jones ever were. Clemson would CERTAINLY have been more competitive against Bama. I think Clemson EASILY wins the ACC with Nutt as its coach. I just wanted that on the record.
But we shall NEVER KNOW.
and because Clemson violated my moritorium on firing Bowden, I will now refuse to give them ANY LOVE in my weekly picks blog for the next 4 years. Yeah, TAKE THAT! NO LOVE KLIMPSEN!

I HATE to say I told you so.....but........Greg Shiano, way to Fogler it! (in case you DON'T get the reference, Eddie Fogler was the brainiac that turned DOWN the UNC basketball head coaching job-you know, one of the top 3 jobs in the country-to stay at South Carolina and continue his stint as head man there. He was fired one season later.) Shiano turned DOWN THE U aka Miami to remain at Rutgers, thinking he was going to take the official state university of the Armpit of America TO THE TOP...they are 1-5 this season and have gone to such bowl hotspots as Toronto's International Bowl over the last few years. WOW.

Now, he probably won't get fired because he can play the whole, "I showed you loyalty, so you should show me some," card, but earlier this season, his senior QB to a swing at one of his teammates after a bad game. And Rutgers is falling to the bottom of the EVER SO POWERFUL Big East Conference. (And if you couldn't smell the sarcasm oozing out of that phrase, you should go give yourself a swirly!)
