South Gwinnett QB needs some help
South Gwinnett quarterback Mason Hart has stepped in for injured projected starter Jordan Ramey and while Hart has played admirably the Comets are 0-2 so far in 2011. Hart though recently suffered a bigger loss as his house was destroyed in a fire. An entry on Patch.com reported that the Hart house was struck by lightning. The South Gwinnett coaches have established an account at Wells Fargo where donations can be made to the family, payable to the South Gwinnett TD Club: Hart Family Assistance Fund. Donations can be accepted at any Wells Fargo.
North Gwinnett owns it out-of-state, Frost heating up for Pope
Camden County wasn’t the only Georgia program to represent the state with a huge win in a showcase against an out-of-state opponent last weekend. The North Gwinnett Bulldogs improved to 2-1 on the year with a 35-17 win over St. Augustine (FL) in the Florida-Georgia Gridiron Challenge. Donnie Miles scored four touchdowns in the win as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 28-0 lead. Score 44 member Scotty Hosch was 25-33 for 286 yards according to the Gwinnett Daily Post. Chad Scott reeled in eight catches for 101 yards while Russell King tallied 94 yards on seven receptions. ML King is LOADED, Printz headed to SMU?
Jonquel Dawson and the ML King Lions laid it on South Gwinnett last Thursday and a vibe is starting to spread about the eventual matchup against the Stephenson Jaguars. Many were simply handing Stephenson the region based on talent, but ML King defeated the Jags last year and could well again this year. Blake Tibbs, the fantastic Lions receiver made the Score 44, joining his teammate Kendarius Whitehead. If Dawson keeps this level of play up, he could find himself on the Score 44 sooner rather than later. The AJC's Michael Carvell called Dawson the best QB in the state...

Fantasy Football tips...like you need them...
Now that everyone’s draft is more than likely finished, odds are you like your team but you aren’t in love with your team. You want to tweak and drop a player here, add one there, swap out defenses. Are you looking for this year’s Arian Foster, the guy that likely went undrafted that could win you the league? You should be. So who will be the breakout guy this year the probably didn’t get drafted? I could try and help you out here.
While he probably won’t win a receiving yardage title or even finish as the top rookie receiver, Torrey Smith of Baltimore will be the home run threat that Baltimore hasn’t had in recent years. Anquan Boldin will be the main guy but you know that every now and then Joe Flacco will look away from the double-covered No.1 right at Smith who will likely be streaking down the field towards the end zone.
Last year, receiver Mike Williams came out of nowhere for Tampa Bay. This year that mid-round rookie receiver could be Leonard Hankerson in Washington out of The U. The 6’2 Hankerson followed up a record-breaking senior season with an outstanding Senior Bowl and now he should see early reps if not starts for the Redskins. While the QB situation in DC is shaky, the signal-caller will be able to throw to Santana Moss and Hankerson. Williams had 11 touchdowns one year ago; Hankerson could reach double-figures as well.
You want a running back? How about several sleepers that could win you the league? Tim Hightower played college at the University of Richmond and then suited up for the Arizona Cardinals. The Cards decided to look elsewhere for their rushing attack, so Hightower ventured back east and will now play for Mike Shanahan and the Washington Redskins. What is Shanahan’s MO? Take a hard-runner and make him a 1000-yard rusher. (See: Davis, Terrell; Portis, Clinton; Gary, Olandis; Anderson, Mike). With Ryan Torain’s recent hand surgery, Hightower is the Redskins starting back and you know the Redskins will want to work the running game. He had over 730 yards one year ago while touching it just 153 times. He can fine the end zone and he can catch the ball out of the backfield.
The Atlanta Falcons have been intrigued with the idea of a secondary/scatback runner in the mold of Reggie Bush and tried for years to make Jerious Norwood that player. It didn’t work out. Now the team will try and make Jacquizz Rodgers that player. Rodgers though is also a tough runner that can go in between the tackles, not just around them, and his pass-catching ability is certainly one that Falcons fans are looking forward to following. How will he fare in fantasy football? Playing behind Michael Turner means you shouldn’t expect Quizz to be your top back, but no one outside of the Rodgers family is taking Quizz to be the top back on a fantasy team. However, Turner has had some trouble staying on the field the last two years so perhaps that is an opening for Rodgers. Richt is in trouble for coaching hires
Mark Richt is in trouble but not because his team lost to a clearly better Boise State team Saturday. (Though I know many a Georgia fan that has a problem with the fact that the Bulldogs lost to a team from the Mountain West Conference.) Richt has now lost two straight games to teams from NAQ schools and that doesn’t sit well with the Bulldog Nation.
No, the REAL reason Richt is in trouble is because of who he has decided to surround himself with as he is on the hotseat. Mark Richt caught some heat during the 2008 season when the team struggled following a No.1 preseason ranking but waited until after the 2009 season to make a change at defensive coordinator. Now Richt is watching/hearing his collection of assistant coaches get slammed on blogs, radio stations and newspapers columns.
Offensive coordinator Mike Bobo is called everything from a Richt puppet (one of the nicer things said on a recent call-in show) to the “worst offensive coordinator in the country,” (perhaps the meanest thing said on the same call-in show). Richt’s handpicked defensive coordinator Todd Grantham doesn’t seem to make the adjustments once the opposition adjusts to his game plan. Case in point: on Saturday the Georgia defense was shutting down Kellen Moore and company well into the second quarter when the Broncos finally made adjustments and scored 14 straight entering halftime. In the second half, Grantham had coached his squad so “well” that a timeout was required three minutes into the first drive. Huh? Even standout cornerback Brandon Boykin was quoted in an Atlanta newspaper, wondering where the pressure was. The new offensive line coach watched as Aaron Murray was sacked six times and the running game never got going. And lastly, the new strength and conditioning coach Joe Tereshinski needs to answer for what was up with the cramping. It seemed like at least once per defensive drive a player went down with cramps. That is understandable considering it was being played in the hot afternoon Georgia heat with the humidity….wait, it was in a temperature-controlled dome? But, how, wait, he what, see… That was curious. The Bulldog faithful heard all off-season that Joe T. was going to amp things up in order to avoid what happened the last few years when the team didn’t finish strong. I shudder to think of what cramping might occur this Saturday in the outdoors of Sanford Stadium.
