A Hogan wants to see other Hulkamaniacs, Ed are you losing your house? and MTV Movie award fixed?
Ladies and Gentlemen, the Midweek Entertainment report!
CLAPCLAPCLAPCLAPCLAPCLAPCLAPCLAP
So I saw where a judge denied Nick "Hogan's" bid to end his solitary confinement that was causing him "unbearable anxiety." Poor dude. You would think PRISON would be more accommodating. The prison WAS after all trying to protect him since he is just 17 and they didn't want him being the target of numerous Sistah attacks ala Andy Dufranse (spelling) attacks. While I don't think that he deserved to go to prison because one of his passengers forgot to wear a seat belt, but dude, you are in prison. And you wanted to be allowed to stay out of jail with just an ankle bracelet until you turn 18? That's a little much. Just saying. Plus if anyone messes you, was your dad going to fake beat them up? Come on.
I saw where Ed McMahon is fighting to avoid foreclosure on his multimillion-dollar Beverly Hills home. Yep the YOU ARE CORRECT SIR guy who also give away the big checks for the Publisher's clearing house. Now, I met this guy at a blockbuster in Virginia. Seemed like a nice guy. You would have just thought he would have swiped one of those checks in order to pay off his house. Oh well.
Lastly, I didn't have a problem with Johnny Depp winning the MTV movie award for "Best Villain" for the Barber movie. No problem. The problem I had was his winning for best comedic performance over the Kids from Superbad and Seth from Knocked Up. REALLY? And the way he came out from a secret backstage entrance BOTH TIMES? He wasn't even good enough to sit out in the crowd with the plebeians? It was rigged and the ONLY way he was showing up was if he won. I bet that is what his people said. Just one dude's opinion. For the Record!
Welcome to Sports by Fletch, where I rant and rave, usually about UGA, high school sports and sometimes pro sports. Thanks for reading and I hope you come back.

The Good, the Bad, the Ugly
Sorry about no blog about last night's game. But I have decided to give you a big blog with my thoughts about LAST night's game, today's game and the Smoltz surgery decision....
First the good. The Braves rallied for two runs in the bottom of the 8th and got the 5-4 win over the Fish last night. NICE. Greg Norton, after providing shady defense and giving me several near heart attacks with his roundabout ways to the ball, came through in the bottom of the 8th, but YET again the REAL story is the lack of driving in those ducks on the pond and getting them into the water. The Braves left the bases loaded several times last night, INCLUDING the 8th inning. Good thing Soriano was able to close the door in the 9th and get the Braves the win. I guess I shouldn't complain.
Today's game...GRRRRRR! The Braves had the lead in the 9th and suddenly they lose thanks to a couple of home runs and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory as Skip said on the radio. WOW, that was just completely disappointing. I would have thought the Braves could have closed that one out, but they had Acosta closing instead of....
John Smoltz. Smoltzie has announced that he is having season-ending shoulder surgery after just one relief appearance and one blown save. Wow. That could be the last time we ever see Smotlzie pitch, even though he says he wants to come back next season. To that I say, "Wow, what a bulldog, but please John. Don't." This will be your fifth surgery and I just don't think the human shoulder was meant to go through all of that. If you want to have a normal shoulder/arm for the rest of your life, get the surgery and just rehab it and walk away.
I'd love for you to come back and I think you want to because you want to go out on top, but I don't think the Braves are winning it all next season. If you would have been that last missing piece, I say COME ON BACK! But I don't think you would be. I would HATE repeat HATE to see your career end, but it just might be time. I can't even believe I am saying that, but it might be.
John, one heck of a career, and you got a ring in 1995. You are the man. Enjoy America's golf courses and enjoy the Hall along with your boys, Mad-dog and Tommy.
And Maybe the Braves can take that 10-14M and sign a Joe Blanton perhaps? AJ Burnett?
Just throwing names out there.

Hope Change, a good race? Ummmmm..On WW it is
So it looks like it is now Obama v McCain for the White House in Election 2008.
Wow. An old guy v a guy NOT saying much besides short buzzword statements.
Can't get too excited over that.
(and PS, Mrs. Obama, if you don't want folks to attack you or your character, stay off the campaign trails. If you choose the public life, it WILL be public. You seem to be fine with going out and trying to get votes for your husband. You put yourself out there then you are out there. People will be allowed to try and take votes away because of you. You want fair, don't marry a guy that wants to be president.)
One race I CAN get excited about though, the Race at the end of season 6 and the beginning of season 7 of West Wing. It looks like Hoynes is out for the Dem nomination so it's Santos v Russell. Will Donna switch over and help Santos win? DOesn't she see what a d-bag Bob Russell is?
And Alan Alda looks like he could be tough stuff on the Republican side. And the thing about it is (well, besides the fact that I would CLEARLY vote for him) I would REALLY vote for him and not just vote for the party.
In the real election, I will vote for McCain because he is the Elephant Man, but I wish I was voting for Mitt. If Alan Alda's character Arnie Vinick was running, I'd try and vote multiple times. Just saying.
But as for the real election, I just hope that we can hear something REAL in the debates and on the issues. Otherwise, I'd just rather the winner of the West Wing race be tapped to be the real guy.

What a GREAT night of baseball
Not ONLY did the Braves win last night 7-5 with a Yunel Escobar walk-off job in the 10th, but the Diamond Dogs certainly proved their worthiness of that national seed and host spot of the Super Regional site.
We'll discuss the Dawgs first. In the first the team got out to the 3-0 lead, but I had to temper my excitement because college ball is kind of like little league ball in that you pretty much EXPECT to give up a run or two every inning. So when UGA then fell behind 5-3, I wasn't panicking, because next thing you know, they were back up 6-5. Then the route was ON! 18-6 and I got to bring all of the Techhy fans the news on the HOME for Georgia Tech, Sports Radio 790 The Zone! HA! But on a side note, could we PLEASE speed up those games? Maybe a 9 batter rule or something? That was a little ridiculous. Now UGA will host NC State in a best of three at Foley Field starting Friday. It is just hard to see UGA NOT advancing to the CWS because they seem to be blessed this season. Go Dawgs
On to the Bravos. Lil tex had a pretty good early part of the game and Jo-Jo kept his team in it until the 7th when he left the contest with no outs and runners on first and third. I do like that Bobby Cox is starting to trust him and is seeing if he can get out of trouble spots. After being on the shortest leash EVER last year, Cox looks like he is seeing if Jo-Jo can swim. I like it. But as the game gets tied up, we enter the bottom of the 8th tied....and Yunel Escobar comes thru and we know Smoltzie will get a shot at the save. That place was ROCKING last night. Bobby, Paul and I were rocking....then ONE out! Then a double. Then a single. First and third one out....hit to the left side and through, oh no! WAIT, the LF lets the ball skip off his glove? WHAT? Either Norton or Infante makes me want to puke. He just kind of stood up and watched the ball squirt away....Ummm GO GET IT?!
Now the Braves were down one. But they didn't seem to panick, even after lil tex was retired (shocker! It was in the clutch!) to start the 9th, but Frenchy drew the walk, then McCann did as well. After Josh Anderson hit into a fielder's choice and then moved up on Defensive indifference, a wild pitch plated Francoeur to tie the game and suddenly this was a game that Atlanta would NOT lose.
Perhaps this was the Braves' charging the endzone and jumping up and down ala UGA/Florida game. Could that have broken the curse?
Well in the bottom of the 10th, Kelly Johnson drew a walk then advanced on a wild-pitch and Yunel Escobar made it all moot with a two run walk-off home run. And the funny part was, Yunel was trying to bunt KJ over, then the Florida pitcher got too cute and left a 3-0 pitch just hanging. Good for you Yunel. And to ALL pitchers out there...(Braves pitchers included) IF A BATTER IS TRYING TO GIVE YOU AN OUT, TAKE IT! Just TAKE IT! I bet the pitcher NOW wishes he had just thrown a fastball down the middle to let Escobar bunt it back. Maybe then you can retire Infante and walk Chipper with two outs to get lil tex to OF COURSE end the rally. Just saying. If they are GIVING you an out, TAKE IT!
Hull-low!

I'm not here to be a hypocrite!
In case you were at a bar, in a club, at a restaurant or ANYWHERE this weekend, and you were wondering where the ladies were, they were all together watching the new Sex and the City movie. Yep. It made 55.7M this past weekend, easily beating Shia LaDouche's "movie" and toe-tagging Robert Downey Jr's Superhero Addictman....I mean IronMan.
But here is a point one of my buddies brought up this past Saturday. All of the ladies that went to see this, most went in big packs and the ladies all dressed up and did a little dinner first then, after consuming all the cosmos they could drink, they walked in their Jimmy Choo's and Minolo's (or whatever) and went to see the movie.
JBone asked what is the difference between THIS and those dorks that dress up for the new StarWars Movies or they dress up as Hobbits to go see LOTR?
My answer, now that I have thought about it......NOTHING! There is no difference.
They are still dressing up, like 4 year olds for Halloween. I am sure the lady-friends, Wifey included, will all dress up for their girls night out to go see this movie. I think that's funny. You want to make a big production of it, FINE. Go ahead. But don't EVER mock those hobbit-garb wearing dorks again. Because you ARE one now.
Yep.
Signed,
Someone who has NEVER dressed up as a character to go and see a movie.
Now, have I dressed up as Charlie Weis to watch a Notre Dame game? Yes. But that is to make fun of the Fupa-master himself. For The Record.

Too depressed to talk Braves, GO DAWGS!
The Braves got swept at Great American Ballpark by the toothless Reds. Hudson left the game with an injury (let's hope it isn't too serious). Braves will come home now and HOPEFULLY win a BUNCH in a row with the Phish and the Fills in town. (see what I did there? Yeah, I hope that's insulting!)
But let's talk about the Diamond Dogs, BABY! (I could have gone with the Dawgs, but why not change it up a bit?)
They stave off elimination TWICE in one day (Is Dennis Felton coaching the team?) and now it is a do-or-die game in Athens TONIGHT against state rival Georgia Tech for the right to go on to a Super Regional. The season series is now split at two games apiece, but UGA has won the last two and they have the full bullpen (Joshua Fields included) ready to go tonight. The only question remains is WHO STARTS? Don't know, but I am betting that Gordon Beckham WON'T let this team's season end at home. Not now! I think the Dawgs win with Fields getting the final outs needed.
As for the Braves, the face the Fish Faces tonight and the topic tonight on Sports Radio 790 The ZOne's Ed Voyles Honda Extra Innings will be looking back at World Series Championship rosters since 1991, who has had the best collection of talent? Could it be the 1997 Marlins dream team? Who knows? Tune in tonight, following that UGA/GT game on the Home of the Yellow Jackets, Sports Radio, 790 THE ZONE!

I think we've been here before
Like a bad episode of the Twilight Zone, the Braves ONCE AGAIN go into extra innings, and ONCE again it is a one-run game, and ONCE again, the Braves lose. CRAP.
This time though, the Braves hitting did its part, the pitching failed. In the eighth, Frenchy gave the Braves a 7-6 lead with a solo home run to right field (proving, he DOES in fact go the other way.)
Then in the 9th, Soriano comes in and gives up the tying run on a ball hit back to him. He looked the runner back to third then took FOREVER to get the ball to first for the second out. Ryan Freel scampered home to tie the game at 7 and Cox was run from the game as he argued. Replay showed the guy was safe. McCann could have done a better job blocking the plate, but Soriano should have looked the runner back, FAKED to first, checked Freel, THEN fired a bullet to first like he was capable of doing.
OR EVEN hold it. What's the difference between bases loaded,ONE out and tie game, but two outs? The potential game winning run would have STILL been at second, JUST LIKE HE WAS in the tie game/two out situation.
That just bothered me. And how about Jay Bruce the Reds Rookie. WOW. he is giving Jair Jurrjens (not a good outing yesterday for JJ) a run for his money for ROY and Bruce JUST came up.
The Braves are now assured of a losing roadtrip, but can still get a win today. MAYBE Huddy can be the stopper here. Man this was disappointing. The team is actually NOT PLAYING POORLY on the road, they just keep losing by ONE SIMPLE RUN! COME ON!
