Drafting a few thoughts about last night....

The NFL held the first round of the draft last night in PRIME TIME for the first time ever, and a few things stood out to me. No.1, lots of crying last night. Wow. Have I ever seen so many HUGE men crying before? Only when Larry's Original Calabash Seafood shut down to remodel. There were a bunch of fat men crying for a few minutes before they realized they could just eat somewhere else.

No.2, as a Redskins fan, the first few things I DIDN'T want to hear about the No.4 overall pick Trent Williams....
Boomer: A bit of a surprise with Washington going with Williams over Okung, right Mel?
Kiper: He'll need to work on his strength. He only did 23 reps at the combine, but he is athletic. He can dunk a basketball.
Todd McShay: this is a versital guy. His first few seasons he was a right tackle and even played center. His last year he played left tackle.

So let's recap, shall we: he was moving up draft boards late, for whatever reason. Perhaps news that he could dunk a basketball sparked that. Wait, I don't remember new Redskins coach Mike Shannahan running many plays that required his LT to dunk a basketball when winning two Super Bowls in Denver. Hmmm. And he only did 23 reps at the combine? You know who did more? Several quarterbacks.
and he played RIGHT TACKLE AND CENTER his first few years before switching to LT his final season....when Sam Bradford was knocked out TWICE on sacks. Great. Your first game as LT and Bradford leaves the game with a crushing injury. 6 weeks later after he returns, he is hurt AGAIN in that first game and misses the rest of the year. GREAT JOB LEFT TACKLE!

The Falcons got Sean Weatherspoon. A pretty good pickup for them. Thank goodness that Maurkice Pouncey was taken one pick ahead of them because I think they would have taken him. Boy, I'd have loved to have seen the spin machine try and sell a freaking CENTER over Dez Bryant, Gresham, Kindle, Weatherspoon, etc.

Tim Tebow got picked in the first round. Wow. one of three gators. And he's going to Denver where he won't start but can learn. A great spot for him. Not a good spot for Gator-haters. He might actually make it out there. CRUD.

Two GT players taken in the first round, though no Dwyer. He still HAD to go though. No Dawgs taken on day one. expect at least Owens and Atkins to go today as 2nd and 3rd rounds are tonight.
