Matty Ice defeats Joe Cool on a late 4th quarter drive for a score.
Despite the fact that this is an AFC contest and therefore "less important" in the grand scheme of things, It has the feel of a huge game. I do tend to wonder how seriously the Falcons Brass is taking this one. Obviously it's not the end of the world to lose this game and almost no one thought before the year they would win this one. But....why would you concede this game? Because the Ravens have defensive playmakers? So do we. The Ravens have national cache because they have 15 year linebacker Ray Lewis and Ed Reed who are two of the greatest players in the past decade. That said, they haven't run the ball worth a crap this year and despite their newly robust WR arsenal they are only averaging 22 pts a game against the Falcons 25. I'm still hoping Roddy White is a go for tonight. I think this is a game the Falcons have to win to get respect and even then people are going to say...well they got them at home. No one wants to give the Falcons who have an excellent coach, GM and QB any credit but here they are at 6-2 and playing well. I expect the Falcons to win tonight because I believe Matt Ryan can get it done on offense and I believe Curtis Lofton despite his sore knee can anchor the Falcons defense on this short week. I know Ray Lewis is going to have a monster game, he always does... but if Ovie Mughelli can block him effectively a few times...this should equal a Falcons victory maybe on the leg of Matt Bryant, though It would be nice to see Thomas Decoud or Brent Grimes jump a quick out and take it to the house for a cheap 6.
I have a feeling this will be memorable, much like the Carolina game on Sunday Night in 2003 when Vick Returned. I still have that ticket graced with a fist pumping Patrick Kerney... December 7th (Pearl Harbor Day) 2003 8:30 in the Georgia Dome SEC 134 Row 4 seat 15...two seats down from Andrew Jones. This game has been known forever as "the levitation game" when Vick came back from the vicious preseason ankle injury (given to him by the Ravens) and I forget who the corner was but the Falcons won it in overtime on an interception return.
I don't know how it's going to happen, but there is magic in the air. Matt Ryan needs a signature prime time win. He gets it tonight.
