Another Thornton takes center stage

St. Pius X has an explosive offense and the triggerman to this unit now has announced where he is headed next year. Trey White has verbally committed to The Citadel, a member of the Southern Conference. The three-year starter owns several St. Pius records including passing touchdowns in a game and in a season. Geno Smith, a member of the Score 44, has pledged to Alabama while TJ Holloman is headed to South Carolina. According to the Valdosta Daily Times’ Ed Hooper, if Colquitt County scores 33 points in a victory over Valdosta, Lowndes could earn the No. 2 seed out of Region 1-AAAAA. ...

The surname Thornton attached to a running back in the state of Georgia this year has usually been in association with Score 44 member Shadrach Thornton out of Liberty County. Another Thornton is making his presence known, Stephens County junior Chaz Thornton. The Indians have jumped on the back of Thornton and will face Gainesville for the Region 8-AAA title. Thornton has rushed for 1785 yards this year and 25 touchdowns. ...

Finally Ridgeland likely never thought it would be playing for a fourth straight region crown after a 1-4 start. However thanks to four straight wins and another via a Dalton forfeit and Ridgeland is set to face Allatoona for the title. The two played once this season with Allatoona prevailing 28-7.
