Dawgs luck out with Tibbs, Dacula back giving it up for the team

Maybe CJ Curry dropping the Dawgs for the Pokes of Oklahoma State was a blessing in disguise for Mark Richt and Georgia. With the open spot, Georgia went after ML King’s Blake Tibbs who hauled in five touchdowns and returned a kick 82 yards for the game-winning score in the Lions win over Stephenson. The Dawgs missed out on Demarco Robinson one year ago; Tibbs has shown that he could be even better. ...

Lost in the Tibbs hoopla and the Jags/Lions back-and-forth was Demarcus Sweat continuing to stake his claim as the best offensive prospect on the Stephenson team. Sweat plays special teams and wide receiver better than just about every outside of Tibbs in Region 2-AAAAA and one of his returns could very well be the difference in a playoff game this year. ...

As I drove down to call the Valdosta/Colquitt County game, I tuned in to some Valdosta sports talk and heard one co-host say that this Collins Hill team isn’t the threat that last year’s squad was with Taylor Heinicke. The Eagles lost their record-setting QB to Old Dominion but this team has taken the identity of running back Jordan Parker, who topped the 1000-yard mark last Friday. The Eagles face a tall task in Grayson, but a strong running game is certainly something to build on for coach Kevin Reach. ...

Give a lot of credit to Rocky Capobianco of Dacula for agreeing to carry the ball and be more of a single-wing back for the new Falcons coaching staff. He easily could have dug in his heels and demanded to stay at quarterback but Capobianco gave it up for the team and his 16 carries for 122 yards helped Dacula win its final tune-up for the playoffs.
