Cobb County & Class A stacked entering playoffs

Cobb County will send 12 teams to the playoffs with six serving as the home team in the first round of the playoffs. Hillgrove, McEachern, Marietta, Walton, Pope and Allatoona will all host a game this weekend. ...

Adairsville punched its playoff ticket for the first time since 2003 and did so on the back and legs of senior Mike Upshaw. The running back carried 17 times for 119 yards and two scores and a two-point conversion in the Tigers recent 24-14 win. Upshaw now has over 1500 yards on the season. ...

While plenty of love is heaped upon the higher classifications, it may be time to give some love to Class A as this bracket is setting up to be one of the best years ever in the state’s smallest class. Savannah Christian will face Dooly County in the first round with a potential date with Holy Innocents’ looming in the second round. Lincoln County is undefeated this year and may just face the defending champs in the second round, if Clinch County can get by Mitchell County. A huge showdown between Charlton County and Marion County could eventually come to fruition in the Southwest region while Wilcox County will face a gauntlet that could include 24 2Look4 quarterback Brad Butler of Darlington. And the Southeast bracket could provide fireworks with Seminole County, Wilkinson County, ELCA, ECI and Greenville all coming out of that side. ...

Colquitt County’s Rush Propst is 2-0 as head coach in the first round of the GHSA playoffs and now he faces East Coweta, a team that won its first six games of the regular season. The only other time the Indians and the Packers have played was in the 1994 quarterfinals, a game won 25-19 by Colquitt County. The Packers would go on to win the state title that season.
