Eighteen teams have come out and said that they have ZERO interest in former felon-er-Falcons QB Michael Vick, who has been out of the league and in jail for the past 23 months. Roger Goodell recently partially reinstated Vick, allowing him to sign with a team and of course this has been a hot topic on local sports radio stations in Atlanta. Clearly he isn't resigning with Atlanta and 17 other teams have said they too are out.
I am wondering about the other 14 teams, are they interested? Not because of the dogfighting stuff...
(I think he served his time and should sit out the year to prove he really is over his bad decision-making before getting back into the league. It is a privilege after all, not a right to play in the NFL) (PS, can we stop saying it was a mistake please? A mistake is forgetting to roll your windows up and it rains. This was a decision he made. A VERY VERY VERY BAD DECISION. NOT A MISTAKE. He didn't forget his keys, he killed dogs.)
...but because he isn't that good of a QB. Doesn't everyone remember his struggles in Atlanta? Dude was 38-28-1, not exactly Joe Montana. He was 2-2 in the postseason, and both losses were BAD.
He played parts of six seasons going 1-1, 8-6-1, 3-1, 11-4, 8-7, and 7-9. WOW, that gets my toe a-tappin'. Way to hover around mediocrity!
The guy had a passer rating of 75.7, barely better than Joey Harrington and not as good as Byron Leftwich. Matt Ryan's rating as a ROOKIE last year was 87.7. Vick was holding a water bottle (maybe filled with pot?) his rookie year.
Vick posted a career passing completion percentage of 53.8%, worse than Joey Harrington and threw up such sparkling stats as 6.7 yards/attempt an 12.4 yards/completion. He never made Dan Marino sweat at 155 yards per game. He "amassed" 11,505 yards in six seasons. He career TD:INT numbers were 71:52 Yeah. Watch out record books...the back page might need to get rewritten.
And you might tell me that those numbers don't matter. He gave the Falcons a chance to win! Really? You mean when he fumbled 55 times his career? The experts want him to maybe be a Wildcat back, and yes he scored 21 rushing TDs, but 55 career fumbles? And you have to take into account that while he rushed for 3859 yards, he lost 1153 yards via sacks. But don't you remember 2004? Oh yeah, when HE took the Falcons to the NFC Championship game where they were spanked by Philly? Yeah, I remember that season. 14TDs, 12INTS, 16 Fumbles and 46 sacks. WHAT A YEAR!
Bottom line, make sure you REALLY want Vick when you sign him. Make sure he will be worth the PR Nightmare to get enh stats. People say he's a better QB than a good portion of the league....Mmmmmmmmm...he has the athletic ability to possibly be, but he's never put it together, and with two years of jail-rust on him, suddenly he'll realize it? Doubtful.
Make sure he's worth it. Forget the dogfighting issues, I just don't think he's that good of a QB.
