I have the fix for college football. No it isn't a playoff. I LOVE the BCS. I wish more sports had a BCS (what other sport are you assured of a #1 v #2?).
If I were to change the NCAA, I would drop all of the schools NOT in BCS conferences into the FCS aka D-1AA. Think about it...ONLY have the 6 BCS conferences at NCAA 1-A level. What are we losing here? We get actual GOOD BCS bowls and bowl games, and the FCS suddenly gets a ton more teams for their little playoff.
The Bowls won't be Georgia Tech v Fresno State in a game NO ONE wants to see. It would be GT v Kansas in a game that people MIGHT ACTUALLY WATCH. I wouldn't mind seeing UVA taking on Oregon or maybe we could FINALLY settle which conference is the best if there are better chances of the SEC and Pac-10 actually meeting up. Instead of Texas Tech v Navy, we get Texas Tech v Rutgers.
And with all of those teams that no one really cares about playing in the GMAC bowl, Marshall v Bowling Green ACTUALLY MATTERS now as it is the first round of the FCS playoffs. (And with so many more people tuning in to the Division 1AA playoffs, maybe that would kick the BCS in the mouth to get a playoff of its own going.)
It all goes back to the baby conferences and really URBAN MEYER at Utah. The NCAA was tired of getting sued by this piss-ant conferences that should consider themselves lucky that the NCAA even recognizes them that they just let the MWC and WAC and MAC conferences take part in the BCS. Then Urban Meyer had to go and play a soft schedule, then beat arguably the WORST EVER CONFERENCE CHAMP in Pitt back in 2004-05 and now people take the "little guys seriously." And thank OU for losing to Boise State and perpetuating the notion. Thank goodness for UGA for smacking Hawaii around to show that the little guys don't deserve a seat at the big boy tables. All I am saying is that the bowls would be better (instead of one team disappointed they have to play Houston in the Mobile Bowl, and the little team READY TO SHOCK THE WORLD) and the playoffs would be better.
Just a modest proposal. GET IT DONE.
