The Norcross boys basketball program has been a state power over the last few seasons and now the Blue Devils will have a chance to flex its muscles against top competition as some of best teams in the country descend upon Norcross High School this weekend. Norcross High School has assembled a 12-team field to take part in this weekend’s Atlanta National Invitational Showcase. Five teams from the state of Georgia will participate in the showcase along with two Florida schools, a Texas squad, a DC power, a top Virginia program and a school from Alabama.
The action starts Friday afternoon at 4:30 when South Florida Prep Academy (FL), a top 20 independent team in Florida takes on God’s Academy (TX), a top ten independent team from the Lone Star State. God’s Academy is led by K.C. Ross-Miller who is ranked No.37 nationally by ESPN.com. Florida’s West Oak Academy will then face Covenant Christian (GA) at 6 p.m. Friday night. Covenant Christian is one of the top independent schools in Georgia while West Oak is in a similar boat in Florida and is led by Anthony Lee, who has committed to Temple. Friday’s final contest features T.C. Williams (VA) going up against Thomas Jefferson (NY), which is No.5 in the New York City rankings. Jefferson is led by Dave Cooley, headed to Stony Brook University and Devonta Grace, headed to Saint John’s. TC Williams meanwhile is ranked No.6 in Virginia.
Saturday afternoon gets underway with God’s Academy facing West Oak. Central Park Christian (AL), led by Cheir Ajou (committed to New Mexico), will go up against Covenant Christian. Later that afternoon, defending Class AAAA state champion and current No.5 Miller Grove, led by Tony Parker (Scout.com’s No.4 player nationally) and Henry Brooks (ESPN.com top 30 player), will square off with South Florida Prep. The host Blue Devils, currently ranked No.3 in Class AAAAA, will face Thomas Jefferson at 5:30 p.m. Norcross features a plethora of talented players, including future UConn Husky Jeremy Lamb and E. Victor Nickerson, a top 15 player in Georgia. No.6 Centennial will face TC Williams and the Knights will be sparked by Devonta White and Jeremy Burgess. In the weekend’s final game, Meadowcreek will face traditional power Anacostia from Washington DC. Meadowcreek, ranked No.10 in Class AAAAA is led by Terrance Glass, a top 25 player in Georgia.
