Paul Mac's midweek rantings

We might try this out and see if it could fly. Hit us back with comments. Thanks!

SBF's Paul Mac is considering if you will Terry Pendleton and or Roger McDowell as the next grassroots project.

Evidence: Chipper and Mac are the best most consistent hitters on the team, both use their fathers predominantly when they are having hitting issues. The rest of the team is largely a grease fire except for natural ability. Francouer had a horrific year and when it came to fixing his swing he had to go to Rudy Jaramillo in Texas who is not employed by the Braves. TP has not been able to produce consistent hitting.

McDowell. You could give him a pass and say… well he wasn’t given a good lot to work with, but the ancillary pitchers have NOT become better under him either. The bullpen is a disaster and it’s not all based on lack of talent. Some of these guys can’t throw strikes.

As much as I dislike blaming coaches… Rudy Jaramillo has made Francouer and another lost cause A. Jones better and it’s obvious.

Moving on to NFL draft thoughts......
Also, love your Moala pick but it’s too high. If the Falcons do that I’d LOVE to get an extra first rounder for next year or a 2nd and 3rd this year. We know they need DT,OLB,S,CB in this draft with Center right there and starting Right or Left Tackle.
I liked your skins pick of Oher too. I’m not sure Vonte Davis is the pick by the Pats though. I think they like the corner from Connecticut better.

Finally, Paul takes on Colin Cowherd.....
I heard where our competition Colin Cowherd labeled former Atlanta Falcon Michael Vick a bust. I disagree. Vick sold out the arena for 5 years, they went to the NFC championship; they beat Brett Favre in the playoffs. Etc. etc. Vick was fantastic as a player in his first several years. The Falcons then screwed everything up by firing Dan Reeves and then following him up with the inflexible and inexperienced Jim Mora Jr. who hired the completely wrong OC for Vick’s style of play… then they gave Vick that RIDICULOUS contract to try and make him happy while he still had bad QB coaches around him. Finally they got a good QB coach and that helped his footwork but then Mora was fired for stupidity and Vick self destructed due to his own stupidity.
I would draft him again if I could absolutely in 2002 with a dead end franchise. He put them nationally on the map and made a historically dreadful team interesting. I’m happy the way it went down in the end because I think Matt Ryan will be better for the team in the long run but Mike Vick the player was no bust, he was very good in the right offense with the right coach but he was too stupid to keep his job. Still they got a lot of good out of him and Blank will have made far more off of him when it’s said and done than what they lost when he was exposed for what he was. The demise of Vick as a QB had more to do with front office and coaching mistakes as it did with him. One man’s opinion. Good coaches get the best out of the talent they have. TP, McDowell and Jim Mora Jr. Certainly have not to date. (I think JMJ will do fine with Seattle because it’s his area, and he’s got the right people to do what his OC wants to do but they got worse in Atlanta because he was inflexible.)

Did you enjoy Paul's rants? Do you want to see this become a regular feature? Let us know!
