Buford welcomed Lovett into Tom Riden Stadium last Friday (catch the replay on-demand at GPB.org/sports) and though the score was 7-0 at the half, you got the feeling that Buford was not going to let Lovett back in the game. The Wolves came out in the second half and dominated the line of scrimmage as its O-Line averaged roughly 266 lb across the board, not including TE Kurt Freitag. Shelby Wilkes threw for four scores as Valdosta beat R.E. Lee of Alabama Friday. Wilkes played last year for Rush Propst and Colquitt County but now suits up for Rance Gillespie’s Valdosta Wildcats. It will be interesting when those two teams hook up November 4 in Valdosta to see how Cole Seagraves the new Packers QB fares against the former one. ...
John Russ was back on the field for Mill Creek last Friday in the Hawks’ loss to Norcross. (Game available on-demand at GPB.org/sports.) Russ missed the team’s loss to Mountain View but looked to be back at full strength against the Blue Devils. Mill Creek has lost two straight region games after winning its first three to start the season.
