North Gwinnett/Norcross (on GPB.org) looming, Valdosta better?

All of region 7-5A will take this Friday off but next week will bring some marquee match-ups. Norcross will host North Gwinnett as both teams are eyeing the region crown. North Gwinnett lost its first game of the season to McEachern but hasn’t lost two regular-season games since 2008. Norcross is seeking to go 6-0 for the first time since 2006. ...

Perhaps the Brookwood Broncos’ title chances aren’t dead yet. The Broncos, despite two losses, have been impressive at times this year, blowing out Central Gwinnett and shutting down Collins Hill. In those two Brookwood victories, the defense looked like last year’s unit, which carried the Broncos to a title coupled with a sound running game. ...

As hard as it may be to believe but Valdosta could be better this year than one year ago when Malcolm Mitchell and Jay Rome were piling up yards and denting plenty of scoreboards. Valdosta’s new quarterback Shelby Wilkes, a transfer from Colquitt County has sparked the offense and the defense is flexing its muscles, allowing just 6.2 points per game and holding Alabama power R.E. Lee to just 73 yards last Friday. ...

In a battle for west Suwanee softball dominance, North Gwinnett thumped Peachtree Ridge 12-3 earlier this week behind Miranda Strother and Sydney O’Neill. Both were 3-3 at the plate as Strother also scored three runs in the victory. Tori Prince scored twice, according to the Gwinnett Daily Post. ...Buford’s volleyball team had to rally against Milton but ultimately pulled off a thrilling three-set victory 26-28, 25-22, 25-23, before the Lady Wolves swept South Forsyth 25-18, 25-20 earlier this week.
