Now that everyone’s draft is more than likely finished, odds are you like your team but you aren’t in love with your team. You want to tweak and drop a player here, add one there, swap out defenses. Are you looking for this year’s Arian Foster, the guy that likely went undrafted that could win you the league? You should be. So who will be the breakout guy this year the probably didn’t get drafted? I could try and help you out here.
While he probably won’t win a receiving yardage title or even finish as the top rookie receiver, Torrey Smith of Baltimore will be the home run threat that Baltimore hasn’t had in recent years. Anquan Boldin will be the main guy but you know that every now and then Joe Flacco will look away from the double-covered No.1 right at Smith who will likely be streaking down the field towards the end zone.
Last year, receiver Mike Williams came out of nowhere for Tampa Bay. This year that mid-round rookie receiver could be Leonard Hankerson in Washington out of The U. The 6’2 Hankerson followed up a record-breaking senior season with an outstanding Senior Bowl and now he should see early reps if not starts for the Redskins. While the QB situation in DC is shaky, the signal-caller will be able to throw to Santana Moss and Hankerson. Williams had 11 touchdowns one year ago; Hankerson could reach double-figures as well.
You want a running back? How about several sleepers that could win you the league? Tim Hightower played college at the University of Richmond and then suited up for the Arizona Cardinals. The Cards decided to look elsewhere for their rushing attack, so Hightower ventured back east and will now play for Mike Shanahan and the Washington Redskins. What is Shanahan’s MO? Take a hard-runner and make him a 1000-yard rusher. (See: Davis, Terrell; Portis, Clinton; Gary, Olandis; Anderson, Mike). With Ryan Torain’s recent hand surgery, Hightower is the Redskins starting back and you know the Redskins will want to work the running game. He had over 730 yards one year ago while touching it just 153 times. He can fine the end zone and he can catch the ball out of the backfield.
The Atlanta Falcons have been intrigued with the idea of a secondary/scatback runner in the mold of Reggie Bush and tried for years to make Jerious Norwood that player. It didn’t work out. Now the team will try and make Jacquizz Rodgers that player. Rodgers though is also a tough runner that can go in between the tackles, not just around them, and his pass-catching ability is certainly one that Falcons fans are looking forward to following. How will he fare in fantasy football? Playing behind Michael Turner means you shouldn’t expect Quizz to be your top back, but no one outside of the Rodgers family is taking Quizz to be the top back on a fantasy team. However, Turner has had some trouble staying on the field the last two years so perhaps that is an opening for Rodgers. Also, if you are the secondary back, you had BETTER be able to catch the ball and Rodgers can do that. He is worth a look if your league has the RB/WR option as he can be used in the slot and should rack up some receiving yards.
