Most Georgia teams have at least one game under their belts and some squads were breaking in new quarterbacks after watching previous signal-callers depart to college.
-South Gwinnett is on its second replacement for last year’s starter Kent Rollins. Coach John Small thought Jordan Ramey would be the new starter; however an injury in the team’s scrimmage forced junior Mason Hart into the lineup. Hart threw for a score in his first series against Lowndes, but the Vikings also snagged two interceptions off the 5’10 quarterback. Ramey, a 6’4 junior may not be able to return this year but could be highly sought after in next year’s quarterback crop.
-Buford replaced Alex Ross with baseball standout Sam Clay. Buford has racked up a pair of big wins with a sound running game and a dominating defense though Clay did fire two touchdowns in the win over Gainesville.
-Flowery Branch replaced Austin Brown (UAB) with Kanler Coker, a transfer from North Hall. Coker racked up a combined 260 yards and three scores in a huge win.
-Clarke Central replaced Martay Mattox with sophomore Cameron Johnson, who threw for four scores and 181 yards on 10-17 passing.
-Colquitt County replaced Tyler Brown with White County-transfer Cole Seagraves. The newest Packer fired a late touchdown to earn a win against Madison County (FL).
-Camden replaced Joel Ruiz with 2013 Georgia-commit Brice Ramsey…
The Battle of Five Forks-Trickum isn’t just limited to the gridiron. Brookwood and Parkview went at it earlier this week on the softball diamond but it was Brookwood coming out on top in a 10-1 decision. Brandi Jones struck out eleven in the win, which helped the Lady Broncos improve to 14-1 on the year, 2-0 in Region 8-5A play.
