North Gwinnett owns it out-of-state, Frost heating up for Pope

Camden County wasn’t the only Georgia program to represent the state with a huge win in a showcase against an out-of-state opponent last weekend. The North Gwinnett Bulldogs improved to 2-1 on the year with a 35-17 win over St. Augustine (FL) in the Florida-Georgia Gridiron Challenge. Donnie Miles scored four touchdowns in the win as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 28-0 lead. Score 44 member Scotty Hosch was 25-33 for 286 yards according to the Gwinnett Daily Post. Chad Scott reeled in eight catches for 101 yards while Russell King tallied 94 yards on seven receptions. Both of North Gwinnett’s wins have come against out-of-state opponents after the Bulldogs lost to McEachern in the last minute of the Corky Kell Classic…

Pope quarterback Holland Frost isn’t showing any ill effects of losing his top offensive lineman and receiver from a year ago. Through two games, Frost has passed for 424 yards and six touchdowns while running for 231 yards (142 in last Friday’s game against Kennesaw Mountain) and two scores…

The AJC and WSB are reporting that Tsvetomir Petrushev, a two-time Class 5A wrestling champion from Peachtree Ridge, sustained head injuries as well as a broken jaw and pelvis after being stuck by a car. The report noted that Petrushev was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center and remains in critical condition. The Gwinnett County police are in charge of the investigation and are looking for the hit and run offender…

Finally if facing the Pepperell Lady Dragons softball team and you see senior catcher Jacey Boyd step to the plate with the bases loaded, it is best to consider intentionally walking her. Last week Boyd hit two grand slams in a pair of Pepperell victories. Boyd has three career home runs, all coming with the bases loaded.
