Weekly GA High School football news

Despite VW's HSH5 going kaput, I have decided to continue to keep you uptodate with high school football in the state of Georgia. (I mean, if I didn't, what are you going to go to the AJC? Come on!)
So with no further gilding of the Lilly.....
My thoughts on AAAAA,
Lowndes won 21-0 at Coffee. Lowndes, for being #2 in the southeast according to Rivals and whatnot doesn't win games very impressively, but that MAY speak to how great the football is in south Georgia. Greg Reid was at it again as the future Gator had two scores and his Seminole buddy Gerald Demps notched a score as well. Cannot wait to see this team against Camden in what might be the best display of athletes being bottled up in a crappy system since Bud Kilmer made Lance Harbor hand off to Wendell Brown in Varsity Blues. Umm, Hey BUD, why don't you flex Wendell out so Tweeter can catch a few more passes? Run the spread, DUDE. Come on!(a real life example might be the Ray Goff era at UGA or the Ron Zook era at Fla.)
Camden only scored 63 points last week. COME ON GUYS. Let's pick up the pace a bit, SHALL WE?
Newnan continues to make Paul Mac look like a genius as Keandreas Wynn scored thrice and the team posted YET ANOTHER shutout, the team's third straight and five of six. WOW.
Xavier Bacon might be the second best thing to come out of Alaska this past summer as he accounted for 242 yards in a 14-0 win over Warner Robins for N-WR. Watch out for these guys come playoff time. my prediction of these guys v Norcross may not come true, but NWR may prove me right as the overall champ. I bet they still get revenge over Lowndes.
North Gwinnett (the school district of my new house!) has looked pretty good of late, including the 53-0 routing of Duluth. Sorry KY, but Duluth isn't very good. The Bulldogs have Tamburo and Jarry cooking and this week's game v Ptree Ridge should be dynomite. I think that Minter and Co will be strong for the Lions, but the Bulldogs have TOOOO TOOOOO much offensive fire power that they should break thru for a late score or two. 14 point win for NGHS.
In the Walton v Roswell game, it wasn't so much what Walton-rather Michael Boydston (46-257 4TDs) did, but what Roswell didn't do. This is Roswell, who won a state title TWO YEARS AGO. They have a pretty good junior at QB in Hickman, with Three pretty good WRs. True Reid Suhr went down with an injury, but his replacement Duvall Smith is capable enough. I think this falls Squarely on the coach. He acted like he REALLY didn't know what was going on during his halftime interview. I imagine he moves on next season and Roswell tries to net a REAL coach for next season when Hickman is a senior. Roswell should be back, but this season, it is a shame to see so much talent wasted. They won't make the playoffs and that's a shame.
Finally, Norcross lost and they face Collins Hill, where the loser then faces Grayson in the first round of the playoffs. Hey Mickey Conn, congrats on that region title, now face either Michael Box of Collins Hill or DJ Adams and Prince Kent and Charles King (all three with BCS conference scholarships). And PS, Norcross....maybe you guys can turn it on now that the playoffs are here? Speaking of wasted talent......
Also Parkview tagged Shiloh and Brookwood ended SoGwin's playoff hopes. Their game this week will determine the #2 seed out of region 8 and the loser could actually get the better matchup, in Peachtree Ridge, opposed to maybe Norcross the #3 seed.
CLASS AAAA, Well I was wrong. It really is Westside Macon and no one else. They are just crushing teams now. 51-0 over TCC, the #4 team in the GPB poll. WOW. (I mean I called TCC as highly overrated, but WMHS just crushed them. wow.)

As far as Sandy Creek, I mentioned this on HSH5, how cool would it be if after Sandy Creek came out for the coin toss and they won the toss and elected to receive, right then the Stone Cold Steve Austin music hit and Braxton Lane walked out of the home tunnel, ready to play. This guy was supposed to be the top returning senior WR in all of the state, but he decided to focus on the upcoming Baseball draft (the guy is going to go MAYBE in the fifth round?) and he sat out the football season. Donovan Tate did the same thing up in Cartersville, but then he decided to actually play. Lane has yet to come back. Braxton, please give me this and could Jim Ross please yell, "MY GOD, THAT'S BRAXTON LANE!" like he used to do for Stone Cold?

Marist clinched the Region Title with the win at Lithonia, and I know they hold a 38-0 win over Tucker, but why do I get the feeling that Tucker is STILL the best team out of that region? I think Tucker is the ONLY challenger to Westside Macon this season.

Evans, by the way, is STILL the worst 9-0 team in the state, according to their own DE. That's what I am here for, to bring the news....

Class AAA. I wrote the recaps and the previews for gpb.org/football, but I left the file at the office. So I will just free hand...Cairo is FINALLY starting to shut me up. They looked good from the clips I saw against a quality opponent in Crisp Co and Reggie Bryant had YET ANOTHER solid outing with 142 and 3TDs. Pease threw in a score and Ronnie Wooten is a nice "backup RB" for the Syrupmakers.

Baldwin Co won its first region title in 23 years with a 14-12 squeaker over Waco, but give the Braves credit. They know what they are and they do what they do. Nothing more, nothing less. I wish UGA did that.

St. Pius is ready for its showdown with Dunwoody and that one should be a classic. I've been on the Dunwoody bandwagon ever since I watched them last season. I'm not jumping off now, but St. Pius looks, at full strength, VERY LOADED.

As far as Gainesville v Flowery Branch, we get to see two pretty solid QBs in Blake Sims (maybe the most underrated in the state) against Conner Shaw of the Falcons. Sims notched 2td runs and 1 pass last week. he's ready, but Shaw has a stable of RBs at his disposal.

Carver-Columbus took out its 2-loss frustrations on LaGrange last week in the 24-0 win and is FINALLY starting to get some R-E-S-P-E-C-T from the GPB/ScoreAtl pollster Alex Ewalt. (Come on Alex, love ya Buddy!) Jarkius Morgan and Isiah Crowell are great and this team COULD repeat, if they catch a break or two in the playoffs. Jackson is a nice story, but I don't see them doing much in the playoffs.

Class Buford-er I mean AA
Cody Getz is BY FAR the best player in this classification. he's a threat to take it in ANYTIME he touches the ball. Will anyone top Buford? Hard to say right now after the Wolves got a wakeup call v Blessed Trinity. Maybe Pepperell and Brandon Whitaker? He had 3 tds at model....maybe Fitzgerald (showed some offense at Albany)...maybe Charlton County (they were the last ones to beat buford...)
No I say if ANYONE is to do it, it would be either Rashard Smith of Dublin (168 rushing last week in a win) or Henry County (Drew Little to Patterson and the JR WR). Henry Co won 55-3 and is #4 in the GPB poll.

Finally Class A. ECI's Wayshaun Ealy had 5 TDs last week.....in the first half. The most troubling thing I've seen about this ECI team was today in the AB-H. Neither Dexter Moody nor Wayshaun Ealy has qualified academically for UGA just yet. COME ON GUYS! We know Knowshon is gone (hey AJC, way to FINALLY pick up on the KM24 story I've been talking about on this blog and on 790 for QUITE A WHILE NOW), but Caleb King doesn't look as explosive. Richard Samuel is only 17 and he sometimes REALLY looks it. Can Charlton Thomas be the Noel Devine of this crew? What about Dontavious Jackson? UGA looks like its stable of 4 backs (not counting Know or Way) will be solid, but I'd sure like to have a guy with 120 career TDs in High School. Study up Wayshaun!

Wilcox squeaked by Turner County (a county they apparently named after my good buddy Chris Turner aka CT here in the sportsbyfletch world)

Anyone else is just a pretender to the ECi throne. Just cancel the playoffs, give Wayshaun 3 TDs per game in 5 simulated games so he can study up to get in to UGA. Please?

Be sure to tune in to Score Atlanta's Scoreboard show this Sunday from 1-4 on www.790thezone.com or WQXI 790 AM!
