A League of their own acid flashback

Remember at the end of A League of Their Own, when Kit came to the plate to face her former team and the catcher KNEW how to get her out and told the pitcher the gameplan, the action went according to plan, until the final pitch wasn't quite where it needed to be and Kit turned into the hero?

Well that scene played out last night in LA when the Dodgers beat the Braves. With the Dodgers up 1-0 after the Braves had just wasted an opportunity in the top of the seventh (runner on third-the first hit of the game btw!) with one out and CHIPPER grounds back to the pitcher and lil tex flies out to left to end the inning. Then in the bottom of the frame, Nomah leads off with a single then a pinch runner advances to second. With first base open, the Braves walk a batter to face Andruw Jones. They figure he is 0-2 with 2 groundouts, why not another inning-ending DP that he had become so famous for with the Braves. OR EVEN A STRIKEOUT, see previous sentence. Well Huddy throws the first one in the dirt, but AJ swings. STRIKE ONE. The next one AJ watches cruise down the middle. STRIKE TWO. Then McCann calls for another one in the dirt, but Huddy leaves it up in the strike zone JUST ENOUGH that AJ pokes it up the middle for the RBI.

2-0 helps cover up a Jeff Francoeur solo home run in the 8th, then Mark Kotsay runs the Braves out of the inning with a caught stealing. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. That leaves a pinch hitter to come back up in the 9th, meaning Chipper would be stuck on deck. Sure enough he was as the Braves went 1-2-3. CRAP.

Several other things. Derek Lowe had a perfecto going thru 6. Gregor Blanco breaks it up in the 7th. His heads up baserunning got him to third on a groundout, but you saw above that Chipper and tex couldn't bring him home.

Also Frenchy in the dugout after the home run (he went 1-3 btw. way to get out of the slump-sarcasm), he reminded me of a guy that shall remain nameless on my high school (junior year) tennis team, who in the playoffs, as we were losing actually WON his match (maybe the first time all year he actually contributed to the team.) and was walking around proud of himself and saying, "Come on guys. I can't be the only one who wins today." Umm, Jackass, it is about the team. Your homer Frenchy, is nice, but ultimately it was crap. You guys lost. And why don't you shave.
Just saying.

I was hoping the Braves would be only 4 GB, but now the team sits 6 back, JUST where they were after the Phillies series. Come on guys. You WASTED a FANTASTIC effort by Tim Hudson, WHO PICKED UP THE LOSS last night as he gave up 2 runs on 3 hits in 7 innings. You get ZERO HITS thru 6 innings on Derek Lowe? Chipper, Tex, GET A GRIP GUYS.
Now with a day off, you have Jorge and Morton going against Peavy and Maddux. Then Randy Wolf is closing the first half. The Braves have back themselves into a corner and NEED a sweep now. Nice guys. Way to back yourself into a corner.
Come on team
