OK I've reached my boiling point with people that have said that Georgia coach Mark Richt has lost control of his program. Listen, I stood there when the national media kept calling UGA overrated and saying that they were exposed in the loss to Alabama, and to the gentleman who writes for SI.com (Stew Mandel, maybe?) please get your story straight. [You say that UGA hasn't beaten anyone and the Bama game showed they aren't that good, but then you validate Alabama's #2 ranking by saying "well they took it to UGA at Sanford Stadium!" Let's get the story straight please: is UGA good and lost a bad game to a great team? or is UGA terrible, but then people shouldn't get credit for beating them.]
I've also stood back and not commented as TMoore from the AJC takes his potshots at Georgia (I know he does it just to get a rise out of people because he is probably paid by how many blog hits he gets...).
But I can't stand it anymore. To all of the Gator fans, Tech fans, Tennessee fans, Auburn fans, and to the writers and national media that says Mark Richt has lost control of his program with all of the arrests, (10 since January) could we please go back and look at them?
-Clint Boling DUI and charges reduced to Reckless driving. Not terrible
-Justin Anderson and Trinton Sturdivant-rubbing a pregger's belly-charges dropped
-Jeremy Lomax speeding and carrying a concealed weapon-WEAPONS CHARGE DROPPED. guy basically got a speeding ticket
-Fred Munzenmeir(third string fullback) peeing in public. Wow. Drunk kids in college?
-Baldwin(never played for UGA in three years) and a walk-on -getting in a fight downtown, where the cops admitted they were instigated
-Jeff Henson (backup long snapper) pooped in a parking lot. DUDE IS THE BACKUP LONG SNAPPER! gimmie a break.
now these two arrests from the past weekend. Brandon Wood was being a good samaritan by driving (drunk) his girlfriend and her friend home from downtown. His BAC was .113 (the limit is .08) and so he is out for the LSU game. Could the UGA Police have told him to just go home (since he was three blocks from his house) maybe, but rulez is rulez.
as far as Vince Vance, he was arrested because his learners permit was expired. dude didn't have a full on license, just a learners permit that had expired 12/07. I would say give him a break, but that was maybe a little TOOOOOOOOO long for him to get a break. He deserved to get a citation. Arrested? Well it is an arrestable offense, but come on. The UGA cops are just dicks. Wifey can tell you from personal experience.
As far as people saying that he's lost control of his program....should Brandon Wood have been driving? No, but I don't think he was planning on driving. And if he had told his girlfriend to take a cab...if she is anything like how my girlfriend in college was, she probably would have told him he'd be looking for a new girldfriend if he didn't come pick her up.
As far as Vince Vance's arrest, if you want to say that having an expired permit is Richt "losing control of the program," dude, get out more!
Yeah, Mark Richt is really LOSING control of the program. Wait, did any of these kids MURDER someone (Baylor)? Did any of these kids use a dead woman's credit card to make several purchases (Florida)? Was rape involved(Colorado)? Did any of them steal(South Carolina)? Did any get involved with organized crime(Ohio State)? Did any of them take their 2-year old daughter to a drug deal then tell the cops, "Oh I thought that was a Dora The Explorer Doll. My bad!"(GaTech)? Did any of them get their 5th DUI(Tennessee)?
Wow, let's ride Mark Richt out on a rail! And let's continue to heap praise on Urban Meyer and Pete Carroll and Jim Tressell.
I just don't think Mark Richt needs to be answering questions like this the week of LSU. Baton Rouge is the ONLY venue in all of the SEC where CMR has yet to taste victory. I know he'd rather be focused on that, opposed to having to answer questions about a kid with an expired driver's permit-WHO IS INJURED ANYWAYS! Punishments have been doled out (moreso than at 90% of other SEC Schools, for the record) and let's move on. Lost control of the program? It must be a slow news day. Either that or you are jealous he isn't your head coach.
Bottom line, if Richt has lost control of the program and UGA is #7 in the First BCS poll of the year with a big chance to move up big time in the next few weeks, then GOOD. I bet South Carolina and Clemson and Tennessee and Notre Dame wish their coaches could "Lose Control of their programs" like Richt "has."
