adding insult to injury....

The Braves lost today 5-4 after taking the first two games of the series with the Nationals, but the bigger issue may be Tommy Glavine's leg injury. He was forced to leave the game in the first with an apparent leg injury and you just have to wonder how long he might be out. Glavine was brought in to Atlanta to be the team's third starter and hopefully to turn Chuck James into Glavine Jr. But Chuckie is down in Richmond right now and Glavine may be on the shelf for a week or two, depending on this injury.

Bennett came in and held the fort as best he could for the second time in two weeks (the Hampton start as well) but the team couldn't contain the opposition and overcome the loss of a big-name pitcher.

You just have to hope that Glavine can come back soon, otherwise it will be Smoltz and Hudson and pray for rain, like it was last year. Having those two can get you wins in the postseason, but first you must MAKE it to the post-season.

That said, the Braves were down 5-3 in the 8th and Frenchy ran hard with two outs and scored on the error by Wily Mo Pena (I REALLY like that name. Wily Mo Proctor for my first born, regardless of gender!) Then in the ninth after Bryan Pena K'ed and KJ popped out, Yunel worked a walk (really maturing. I like it) and Chipper doubled, but Yunel wasn't running on the play and couldn't tie the game up. A walk to Big Tex (thank goodness his rep is preceding him because he STILL isn't hot yet) chased the Nats' closer and in comes a guy BMac is 0-8 lifetime against. Make it 0-9 as he swings first pitch to hit a lazy fly to end the game. Oh well. I like that the Braves are not giving up this year, but they need to not get in so many holes and they need to COME THROUGH more often. BMac. Make the pitcher at least throw twice before you swing. Make him find a rhythm. But YOU are the professional and I'm just the hack beat writer.

Overall, let's just get Tommy healthy and be glad we took the series. Now finish strong on this roadtrip and get hope in a hurry!
