Mid-week entertainment report 4/9/08

Mrs. Jigga-Man, Idols are boring and Absolut-ly a boycott
Ladies and Gentlemen, the mid-week entertainment report.

Clapclapclapclapclapclapclap

So Jay-Z and Beyonce got married huh? I guess he was right. He had 99 problems, but a b!tch really wasn't one. He had that area covered. Congrats Beyonce, if it weren't for you, Jigga-man would have had 100 problems. And that might have sent him over the edge. It really would have been a Hard-knock life. Not sure he would have had the Blueprint to figure it all out. Ok, I'm done.

American Idol was a tad boring last night, though David A did a great job with Angels. Even though it was a bit-you know- at times I still really liked it. I love that song, the Robbie Williams version, and David switched it up enough to make it really good. I also liked Jason Castro's Over the Rainbow. The guy just needs to stop that goofy DARRRRRRRRRR smile when Ryan is talking to him. PLEASE! The rest, David Cook included did NOTHING for me.

Finally....
I saw this on yahoo.com and I just have to say, if people are offended over this, SERIOUSLY, get a life.

The distillers of Sweden’s Absolut vodka have withdrawn an advertisement run in Mexico that angered many U.S. citizens by idealizing an early 19th century map showing chunks of the United States as Mexican.

The billboard ad has the slogan "In an Absolut World" slapped over a pre-1848 map showing California, Arizona and other U.S. states as Mexican territory. Those states were carved out of what had been Mexican lands until that year.

Although it was not shown in the United States, U.S. media outlets picked up on the ad, and after a barrage of complaints, Absolut’s maker said on Sunday the ad campaign would cease.

Defending the campaign last week, Absolut maker Vin & Spirit said the ad was created "with a Mexican sensibility" and was not meant for the U.S. market.

"In no way was this meant to offend or disparage, nor does it advocate an altering of borders, nor does it lend support to any anti-American sentiment, nor does it reflect immigration issues," a spokeswoman wrote on Absolut’s Web site.

"Instead, it hearkens to a time which the population of Mexico may feel was more ideal," she wrote.

Absolut’s blog cite has received more than a thousand comments since the ad campaign was launched a few weeks ago, with many calling for boycotts of the Swedish company.

"I have poured the remainder of my Absolut bottles down the sink," one blogger wrote.

A war between Mexico and the United States from 1846 to 1848 started with Mexico’s refusal to recognize the U.S. annexation of Texas and ended with the occupation of Mexico City by U.S. troops.

At the end, Mexico ceded nearly half of its territory to the United States, forming the states of California, Nevada, Utah and parts of Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and Wyoming.

Mexicans remain sensitive about the loss and the location of the border. At the same time, the United States is fortifying barriers to keep out undocumented Mexican migrants.

Some Mexicans use the term "Reconquista" (reconquest) to refer to the growing presence in California of Mexican migrants and their descendants.

Number one, if life was better for Mexicans back then, then by all means, QUIT trying to get into our country and instead get a history book and recall the good times back in your own country. Are you, as illegal aliens trying to reconquer that land by wrecking our cars while you don’t have insurance one car at a time?

Oh, I’d love to go back to the middle 1800s where I would have had to fight in the Civil War and get my leg cut off while I drank whiskey and bit a stick to dull the pain. Yeah, and good thing I could have jumped into my car and gone to Kroger to get plenty of gatorade.....wait. NO LIFE SUCKED back then.

The fact that some people fondly recall that life....

And the topper is the guy that said he JUST POURED the last of his Absolut down the drain. REALLY? You are boycotting the beverage because of this?

I can’t believe people are THIS upset over this. But then I guess if Absolut made a map of the eastern US with Florida having gobbled up GA and the entire state was Orange and Blue (Gator colors) implying that UF owned UGA, I might be a little pissed. But it would be in good fun. No one would boycott the stupid liquor.

PS, The ad was meant for Mexicans NOT Americans. That should be noted too. Not that that excuses them, but it sort of does. Boycott it if you want, I just think it is stupid to get upset over this ad. There are too many MAJOR things in this world to get upset over, not a dumb ad you were never meant to see.
