To quote Frank Costanza....
The Braves bats FINALLY woke up, much like I asked them to do this morning. Frenchy hit two shots and totaled 7RBI (nice work, but did you look at the GM and yell PAY ME?) Chipper played (thank goodness) and scored a run in the first. Good Work there Chip. And Big Tex even got into the early action, singling in a run.
I can't say enough about Matty Diaz and his hustle. Pete Rose was Charlie Hustle, Diaz should be called Matty Hustle. Even on routine grounders, he runs hard because you never know. He is that one kid in little league that wasn't as talented as others, but he made the all-star team as a coach's pick because he hustled his butt off. Great example Matty.
McCann continues to impress from the plate as he hit a homer and went 3-4 if I recall correctly (sorry between Augusta and the technical difficulties Sports South had it was hard to keep up)
But what a job by Smoltzie. 6 innings after laboring for 50 pitches after just three innings. The guy's arm is close to falling off, but he just goes out there and toughs out a win. (Attention Mike Hampton. Read the last sentence) Smoltz also got an RBI thanks to Diaz's hustle.
And finally, I know Oh-MAN finally gave up his first run of the year, but he looks like he could really be something out of the pen. And Acosta got the final few outs. The pen has pieces. Once Gonzo gets back and Soriano can drop to the 8th inning, this thing has a chance.
Good work on the bats today Bravos. Now let's win one for Glavine tomorrow to make up for last Monday. 5-6, let's get it to .500! Take down the Marlins!
