It is now being reported that NBC is considering cutting down some of its primetime hours. Right now, the network has 22 hours of primetime (8-11 m-sat)(7-11 sunday). Apparently Jeff Zucker is now considering cutting down those hours due to the economy and trying to justify it by saying that some of NBC's competition doesn't do 22 Hrs or even 7 days a week. Yeah, Fox is just 8-10m-f with 7-10 on Sundays. But do you REALLY consider CW or WB or UPN (whatever) your competition. If so, you just dropped NBC down into the basement. You are the network of Cheers, Friends, Seinfeld and Frasier. Too bad you now have your bedrocks of The Office, My Name is Earl and 30 Rock.....AND THAT'S IT! Oh, yeah, you still have 900 versions of Law and Order (is anyone watching?) ER, (same question), and 92 nights of Dateline. Deal or No Deal is now over. And really? you thought remakes of Knight Rider and Bionic Woman were both good ideas? And PLEASE tell me why you decided to put Christian Slater into a show? Oh, and just STOP IT with Biggest Loser. I DON'T LIKE WATCHING FAT PEOPLE! That's why John Goodman's shows ALWAYS fail!
An interesting note was mentioned in the piece I read about NBC's potential cutbacks. Apparently its cable networks are doing REALLY WELL. Those cable channels include Bravo, USA Network and MSNBC. If you are really hurting for programming, why not just swipe Bravo's Real Housewives show? Promote Monk from USA to Wednesday nights. Do you think the Atlanta Braves would have just let a bonified stud sit at AAA-Richmond last season if he could have helped them down the stretch when they still HAD a chance at the playoffs? NO! They would have brought him up. You have Psych and Monk and Burn Notice ACTUALLY getting ratings. BRING EM UP! You see college football coaches all of the time burn redshirt years if a player can help them THEN AND THERE. TAKE THE REDSHIRT OFF MONK. (Let me state that I don't watch that show, but it is always winning the guy from Wings awards. Why not promote it and try to grab some big time ratings? Just asking.)
NBC, you guys are in the crapper because of your show selection and you need to try and get fresh ideas in there, not just recycle bad ones.
-Seinfeld is done: Tell Jason Alexander to go away.
Law&Order was probably a good show before you stretched it into 17 versions and killed the writing staff. And while we are at it, stop with the spinoffs all together. Heroes then Origins? Come on guys!
-STOP trying to remake shows from the 70s. They don't work nowadays.
-And BEG Aaron Sorkin to come back. Tell him you are sorry you cut Studio 60 short. Tell him sorry you forced him to insert a story arc with Matt and Harriet so early into the show that it more-or-less killed it. Sorry you made Danny turn into a whipped wannabe-babydaddy for Jordan. Remember how much money he made you with West Wing? He could do it again.
But all of this stuff is cyclical. Fox will soon be back with the pack (at least for me) once Prisonbreak goes away. Bones is still a pretty good show, but I haven't been watching regularly. House might be the best thing Fox has going for it. Fox might be slipping back while ABC I guess is trying to keep hold of #2. (CBS is #1 in the ratings, but I don't watch ANYTHING on CBS except Survivor and football). Don't fret NBC. You'll make it back, just get better shows and stop settling for a quick fix. And don't cut something that has potential just because the ratings slip early. You remind me of Clemson fans! Stay with FNL and you should have stayed with S60. Good writing ALWAYS wins out. At least it should. But it won't as long as the guy running NBC programming is letting Biggest Loser stay on the air.

I loved Studio 60. I wish NBC would bring it back. Anyone that hasn't seen it should REALLY check it out.
Have you ever seen SportsNight?
I can't wait for Friday Nite Lites to come back. I hope they don't stick it on Fridays again though!!!
Bradley Whitford was the BEST as Josh Lyman. I wish Rob Lowe hadn't left the show.
