Move UGA to the Southern Conference!

I just finished watching UGA eek out a win over Wofford and the first thing that came to my mind (Other than hoping that UGA loses the rest of the team's games so Felton gets fired) is that UGA should move to the Southern Conference. It is the ONLY logical move for the good of the program right now. I know it will hurt the tennis teams (at least the men's team. They seem to be alright) and the golf teams and the Gym Dawgs, but it would be Zonetastic for the football and basketball programs (heck even the baseball team too. Perno has them on track only once every three years. Last year was the good year, so expect an 11-40 season. Ugh.)

From what I have seen on the football team's defense, it would fit right in. True the offense would dominate, but the defense would let Furman and Ga Southern and Wofford stick around. Plus if they were in the SoCon, that would mean the Dawgs could qualify for the Division 1-AA, excuse me the FCS tournament. Coach Mark Richt just came out and said how he'd LOVE him some tournament action. And he MIGHT be able to coach em up against the lower competition. But I don't know.....Richmond looked pretty good last night. Just maybe Richt could get the offense to score enough points to overcome the defense's craptastic efforts....

Then from what I have seen from the basketball team this season, the SoCon would be Purrrfect for this squad, especially with Felton at the helm. UGA has some talent, with Thompkins and Leslie, et al, but as long as Felton is coaching this outfit, they will go 4-12 in conference play and it will take YET ANOTHER miracle for this team to make the Big Dance. BUT if UGA is in the SoCon, then the team would have a better shot at the conference tourney title. Felton is a MID-Major coach, I am sure he'd LOVE to return to the mid-major level. He's done his best to drag UGA down to it. Let's just go ahead and make it official. Put UGA in the SoCon.

Albert Jackson belongs there as he gets outrebounded by a bunch of the ragamuffins. Ricky McPhee transferred from Gardner-Webb is it? They have another transfer from one of those schools on the bench. They have Zac Swansey as the starting point guard. He hit the game-winner today and made one v Kentucky in the SEC tourney last season. He would be perfect on one of those mid-major teams that rises up to knock off one of those big teams come March. But wait, he is on one of those "big teams." Crap. Oh, and thank goodness Corey Butler is getting big time minutes for the Hoop Dawgs. Did anyone else see that three-pointer he attempted from half-court? Did Felton draw that play up? And what was up with Felton's play at the end of regulation? Was this the exchange in the huddle: "Alright guys, run around in mass confusion then whomever has the ball, just chuck it up! On three...PRAY!"? Is that how it went?

Between Felton and CMR (well, really Willie Martinez) the Georgia athletic program has dropped to the point that I think the teams would be more competitive in the SoCon. I would rather see UGA playing those guys, because I think we'd have a better shot game after game against those guys. And UGA basketball probably STILL only goes 8-8. FELTON! And now I have a nosebleed.
