For the third straight game against a big time program, the University of Georgia basketball team held a double digit lead in the second half. And for the third straight game, Dennis Felton's crew spit the bit and lost the game. The Bulldogs opened up its SEC schedule today against the defending REGULAR season champions, the Tennessee Volunteers. (The reason I say that is because the idiot announcer on Raycom called Tennessee the "defending SEC Champions." Last time I checked, UGA won the conference tournament and thus the conference championship. I guess with this guy's logic I could call Alabama the SEC football champions? They went 8-0......) The Vols ran out to an early lead, but just before halftime, true freshman Dustin Ware hit a three to give UGA a little mo going into halftime. They had been down by 10, but the team rocketed out of the gates in the second half and actually led by 10 with 12 minutes to play......Then Felton's squad blew the lead.
Not that this fully falls on Dennis the Menace, but how can you NOT somehow coach your team to a better finish than 19-5 over the final few minutes. HOW? How do you not call a time out and set up a play better than a wild runner by Corey Butler? Have you not run possible plays for these types of scenarios down the stretch?
How have you NOT gotten AJax any better on the offensive end? How have you NOT gotten the point guard situation under control? I just don't get how some of that stuff hasn't been gone over with the team?
Felton, I just want you to get your team to finish. I KNOW that the coaching can get these guys to finish. This team has the potential, some one just needs to help this team realize it. Felton isn't that man. Get someone fresh in here for next season, some one that can get this team to where it needs to be. Felton has gone as far as he can go (which isn't that far), we need someone to finish this thing up: FINISH THE DRILL!
