Blaine Boyer blew a save for Tim Hudson because with two outs and two on and the Braves clinging to a 2-1 lead (and having left 15 men on base at this point) a pop fly was hit that SHOULD have been the ballgame, but Kelly Johnson dropped the popup and the Braves went on to lose game one of this OH-SO-IMPORTANT series with the Phillies 4-3. The Braves had a chance to climb to within 2.5 games tonight, but Tim Hudson's 7.2 innings was WASTED by his bullpen and cruddy fielding.
Then in the 10th inning (after the Braves had the runners on first and second with one out in the ninth and Tex and Frenchy coming up, but to no avail. Gee, I guess our Tuesday argument about who was more disappointing this season: Frenchy or lil tex, did NOTHING to motivate either of those two...) Acosta and Royce Ring allow two runs to cross home and then in the bottom half of the frame Gregor Blano is gunned down trying to score at the plate...not good.
The Braves ended up leaving 19 on base and they just CAN'T GET THOSE DUCKS ON THE POND INTO THE WATER. Just can't do it.
Huddy should be 8-4 right now and Boyer should have a save and the team should be 2.5 back. Alas, I said the Braves needed to win 2 of 3, and now they MUST win the next two with Jo-Jo and Jorge on the hill. DEEEEEEEEEEEP SIGGGGGGGGGGGGH.
Well I will be there tomorrow (actually today) to oversee and personally yell at the team, so hopefully that can light a fire under them.
things to work on:
1) baserunning (two big errors with the caught stealing, the made decision to tag up on a shallow ball, the final play at the plate
2) USING TWO HANDS TO CATCH THE BALL ( I likened this to a waiter NOT writing down your order at Applebees. Are you trying to impress me? Use two hands! Just catch the ball. THAT will impress me more than your one-handed drop.
3) get those DUCKs on the pond INTO the water. 19 LOB. UNacceptable! Simply NOT acceptable!
4) get Frenchy and/or tex started or trade them both
One final thought, Tonight's topic on EVHEI was fantasy trades, if we could make them. I thought possibly lil tex to Toronto for AJ Burnett. Now you spin it to the Jays that they would have the inside track to resigning tex over the Yanks and Sox and Mets this offseason and Burnett is opting out anyway.
My other thought was taking on Barry Zito, ONLY if the Giants agree to a Mike Hamtonesque trade from a few years back and take on 80M of his remaining money. Maybe being reconnected with Tim Hudson would get him going again. I don't know. He can't have possibly lost ALL of his talent. Hello?
