I heard SexyBack on my way to work this morning, and I couldn't help but think that was Justin Timberlake's attempt at an MJ Thriller phenomenon. It was catchy, it was dancy. When it came out, it was EVERYWHERE. He was all over the Victoria's Secret Fashion show with it.
In fact it is STILL making the rounds on Radio-regular and satellite.
The only thing is, it didn't have a dance like the Thriller video had.
One strike against it.
But I also think JT is angling to be this generation's Michael Jackson (just without the kiddie porn stuff). Both were the stars in their early careers in a Group (Jackson 5 v N*Sync) Both transcended the group and once on his own, rocketed up the charts.
Now everything that JT releases, young girls eat UP.
And while Michael Jackson had a rival with Prince, Timberlake has a musical rival in Kayne West, as far as TRULY TALENTED competition.
I guess we will have to see if Timberlake has the chops to last in the spotlight as long as Jackson did. Timberlake is incredibly talented as he can do guitar AND piano AND dance and write some music. Jackson was probably the better dancer, but Timberlake may be the better all-around.
ALso, we saw MJ Ease on down the road in The Wiz....Timberlake is trying to go into movies as well. The Guru, Black Snake Moan, and the one with all of the tattoos about a kidnapping gone bad. He is trying to branch out. You've got to respect that.
I think it is safe to call him the next MJ. I will go ahead and say it. Let's again just hope he stays away from the stuff that made Michael Jackson into Jacko. Basically, STAY AWAY MACAULAY CULKIN!

Chris Brown might have something to say about that!
