For Wifey's birthday, our whole gang went to Turner Field and sweated through yet another crushing loss to the Phillies and unfortunately, things were even worse after the game. Chipper Jones tied the game in the 6th inning with a 2 run bomb to center that got the Braves fans thinking, "Hey, maybe the Bravos CAN take two of three from Philly!" Afterall, Jo-Jo had gone 7 innings, striking out 8 and the Braves had rallied from allowing two solo shots to tie it at 2 and Chipper was batting in the bottom of the 7th. But on a grounder to end the inning Chipper was hustling down the line and I yelled out, "Don't run too hard."
Well, something snapped, or tore. Chipper is out of Sunday's game with a torn quad and he could miss a few days. And sure enough, in the top of the 8th, two runs came home to score for Philly and in the 9th, Jimmy Rollins ended the game with a two run dong. Final score 6-2.
Jo-Jo pitched great, until the 8th...the guy was just out of gas. Frenchy CONTINUES to disappoint, same with Tex. And I also am impressed by Josh Anderson. That kid can FLY. I hope he gets used a little more out in the field and on the bases.
But finally, I just hope Chipper gets better soon, because he is the only thing keeping this team relevant right now. And if he misses too much time, when he returns, the chase for .400 on a 3rd/4th place team in the division WON'T matter as much.
And the Dawgs also lost yesterday, but UGA is 15-0 at Foley Field in elimination games, so history is on David Perno and the Diamond Dawgs' side. Let's hope Beckham and Fields get it done today!
