What a LETDOWN thus far!

I feel like how Teddy KGB described Mike McD after Matt Damon’s character took him down near the climax of Rounders: So unsatisfied! According to pundits and basketball guys EVERYWHERE this NBA playoff season was supposed to be a Renaissance for the league. I thought the crème de la crème would rise to the top and we would see basketball that had not been seen since the mid 1980s.
Still waiting.
LeBron James was pretty amazing yesterday as the Cavs were closed out in Boston as Paul Pierce went for 41, but that series left me wanting more. The Celtics were so strong at home and they looked terrible in Cleveland, nevermind what they looked like in the opening round against Atlanta. And it took “King” James long enough to bust out like he did on this grand stage. The Pistons took out Orlando with Detroit’s best player on the bench with an injury. Orlando looked lost out there with “superstar” Dwight Howard sidestepping the spotlight so Hedo Turkalo could step to the forefront? Huh?
Meanwhile out in the West, LA has looked dominant against the dysfunctional Nuggets and has taken care of business against Utah. They await the winner of the Hornets/Spurs series, which will be the Hornets, since they have home court advantage tonight and the home team has won each game thus far in that series. Is that exciting though? New Orleans has BLOWN out San Antonio at home while the Spurs have dominated all three games played in Texas. Excuse me while I yawn. As good as CP3 is, he didn’t win in the Champs’ backyard.
Maybe the Conference Finals and the NBA finals is where all the magic will happen. It certainly hasn’t happened yet. That first round series Spurs/Suns was a bust. The Celtics big guns of KG, The Truth and Ray Allen certainly hasn’t been lighting the world on fire yet, and now we have to listen to that jerk PA announcer from Detroit try and steal the show with the introductions. But if we get a hard fought series there, maybe that will be worth it. If Chris Paul tries to show up Kobe and prove maybe HE should have been the MVP, that might be fun, until Kobe’s uber-competitive side comes out and he goes for 50 IN NEW ORLEANS while glaring at CP3 the whole time. That might make up for the first two snore-fest rounds. I would LOVE to see Kobe switch on defense to stop CP3 if there is a game deciding play down the stretch, then, after D’ing up Paul, just pull out a Kobe glare for the crowd. Maybe even smile as he leaves to floor to Boos from the Hornets fans.
Then in the Finals, seeing Kobe try and win his fourth ring (first alone) going against Paul Pierce trying to snag his first with Pau Gasol banging down low with Kevin Garnett. Now THAT would be the complete opposite of a letdown. THAT would be something to see. That would leave me satisfied.
